Any 6.2L owners?

Curious if there are any 2007-2013 6.2L 1/2 ton owners on the board.

Are you guys happy with them?
What rear gears are you running?
5 spd or 6 spd transmission?
What kind of MPG are you getting?
Are you happy with it?
How's the towing capacity?

Thanks for any info you can provide.
Nate

The 6.2L/6L80E combo tow's very well.
Fuel mileage leave's a lot to be desired....400hp truck's don't get good MPG, But 5.3L 1/2 ton 4x4 Crews aren't that good either.
Dropping the 4wd for a 2wd, & a really good custom tune will put you pretty close to what you get now.

So a 6.2 would be closer to 10 MPG daily driven or are we talking worse?

I picked up a 13 GMC with a 6.2/6L80E and 3.73 gears.

AFM takes a little ... a LOT ... to get used to. Lots of shifting up and down on hills, apply throttle and it's rather jerky and even from a take off, it's hard not to lurch forward.

Rides great, although it could use better shocks ...

I've just run 3 tanks through it, but the lie-o-meter on the dash says 14mpg avg. My routine is probably 75% rural roads ...

And holy crap ... mashing the loud pedal plants you in the seat ... pulls as hard as my 6.2 CTS-V.

I'm worried about possibly upgrading to the. 6 spd transmission due to the shift points, especially when towing.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Any 6.2L owners?

I haven't towed anything yet, so I have no first-hand experience.

But when I select Tow/Haul mode, it acts like I remember my 8.1/Allison acting. Shift points are extended up the RPM range and delayed quite a bit on the downshift.

Also, the trans selector can be taken from "D" to "M" and there is a toggle button on the shifter which turns into a manual, sequential shifter. I have discovered that while on the road, selecting "M" and 5th gear it seems to lock the convertor and by-passes AFM logic and the rig runs on all 8 cylinders.

Just sold my 6.2/6l80e with 3.73s. I never towed much with it but when I had a few light loads it performed well. According to the dic I was averaging 14 combined city/highway. I had longtubes, true duals, cai and a tune. For a crew cab it would move

Thanks for the info. I've heard they will move down the road quite well. :)

You can turn Active Fuel Management off in the DIC. I've never noticed a problem with it, though. Mine only deactivates cylinders when I'm coasting. As soon as I touch either pedal all 8 come back on.

Nate I have never owned a 6.2 truck but I am on my second 6.2 powered Denali. I can tell you that there is plenty of power for towing. I have had no issues with the 6 speed in shifting loaded or unload. In tow/haul mode the trans brake seems to be rather over active at times but its a flick of the switch if you think its over revving the motor.

Having had several Yukon XL's I can attest that the 6.2 powered Denali was the best performing full size SUV I have ever driven. I actually got decent mileage from it with out a tune. I did have a GM intake, but no tune and managed 18mpg on the road with no load.

I have owned/driven quite a few 5.3 trucks over the years

03
05
07
09
13

The 09/13 both have the 6 speed auto and are leaps and bounds better than the older 4 speeds. There faster and always have a gear for towing or passing. They also get better mpg.

The 6.2 is a nice motor with a ton of power. MPG won't be great but it's alot more fun to drive than the trusty 5.3. There also alot harder to find and the price jumps significantly as there typically loaded up.

I chose the 5.3 again as they have treated me well. I was slode to pulling the trigger on a new ecoboost equipped f-150 (the interior is nicer and they haul ass) but the 10K off sticker on my 13 was too hard to pass up.

For around town and towing say 7K pounds and under the 5.3 does a good job. If I was towing heavier than that I would probably own a diesel.
