Bought another one

Well I'm in the doghouse again. My son's girlfriends dad was going to haul a 87 swb to the scrapper last week. I told her to call and tell him I would take it no matter the condition because of the parts. She said it was really rusty and I thought the worse.I did see one pic of the pass. side but thats it for now.

Its not as worse as I had thought. we're going to get it tomorrow and I'll post pics when it gets home.
A little of what I was told, Her dad said it ran fine when he cut it off. He loaded some stuff to carry to the dump and when he started to pull out of the drive way he noticed no oil pressure. No rattles or grinding or any knocking. he thinks its the oil pump. He's changed oil regularly and kept it up.it has set for about 3 years.

It's a 1987 Swb with 305. Engine compartment has been kept clean and the oil isnt that dirty. It does have gauges in it.

Does any one think, hopefully, that the gauge or sender could be bad or possibly oil pump went out? It did not knock or rattle before he shut it off.

No noise? Gauge or sender more than likely. Easy to troubleshoot as aftermarket oil gauges are cheap. Sounds like you may have lucked into one.

That aint rusty ,thats plain nice . You did good by saving that one . And the doghouse sleeps pretty good if you got a big enough dog house . Im kidding ,my wife loves my addiction to cars and trucks ,she is as bad as I am.

The dog house is heated and cooled.haha. I couldnt believe how go it looked when I saw it. I hope that it isnt the oil pump thats bad.

The PO didnt have the money to get it fixed so he goes and gets another car to drive and lets his son do the hauling.so thats good for me.

I had to go pick the son up from the eye glass doc's office Tuesday and I noticed his oil gauge was reading real low at 1600 rpm and below 0 at idle. I put a mechical gauge on it Weds. afternoon and was suprised at the pressure.

So I'm hoping that is wrong with the new one. We'll see.

Looks pretty sweet! How much did it set you back? Here in Texas, that condition is considered descent with some rust through. What is the plan? Work horse? Hot rod? I like it! That would be a good work truck. Let us know!

Damon as you said I have gotten lucky so far. Monday I replaced the sending unit with an aftermarket gauge has she does have 45-50lbs oil pressure. I'm carrying it to a guy I know that works on TBI's next week.

It's idling around 2500-3000 rpm and I dont like for it to idle like that for any leaght of time since it set so long.

PAWS 72 06-26-2013 12:00 PM

Re: Bought another one

A little update, I said the truck was idling high turns out the TBI base gasket had a hole in it.It purrs like a little kitten. Now to get the inside cleaned out and some tires put on.
