Leaving the site
 

Apparently I do not make a good fit for this site anymore.
What was once a nice place to help others and share experience has become nothing short of a "hackers unite" site lately with enphasys on making the cheapest repairs possible with little regard for safety and longitivity.

Trying to use one's experience to help anyone has also become an impossible task, since most will argue that the shadetree way it the best- maybe it is and I am doing it wrong.

For those here with the talent and the techniques shown with awesome builds and professionalism, thank you for the advise and knowledge I have gained reading your posts and following your information. I have as much to learn as anyone, but I refuse to be beaten up and disrespected for the kowledge and experience I have.

Hate to see someone go who has a vast knowledge of these old trucks. I am new here and have been reading tons and tons of stuff to help me with my build. Some I learn a lot from and some not so much......but I try to sort them out the best I can.

Hope that I don't fall into the bad as you see it.

Sorry you feel this way, I had problems on other forums many years ago and I learned very quickly to just not participate in the arguments. It was just not worth the grief. Hope you change your mind and stick around there is a lot of knowledge on this board and a lot of acceptance of differing views unlike other forums I have been to. Kieth :gmc2:

I had the opposite problem when I first joined. I would try and help answer questions in the suspension area, Just to be yelled at and told the way I had my air system was wrong and to not share unsafe info. no the less I have been running the same way for years since with no problem with bag wear or rubbing. I just gave up posting and follow builds, gather ideas, and keep chuging along on my truck. Dont let them get you down, there are 100's of ways to build them. unsafe to one person may be perfectly safe for another, shade tree mechanics can be just as good as ASE techs. I completely understand certain safety issues(the frame thread, with hacked up suspension). If we don't see you again, I wish the best for you and your rides:)

I dont think I have had the pleasure of talking to you, but as is with all forums people have verying opinions on the subjects of our trucks, that is what makes this a great site. every one has an opinion and they all matter. So I wouldnt take it to heart and quit the forumn, but that is your option, I would hate to see someone as your self leave because it would appear that you have a wealth of knowledge that could be passed on to the younger generation of truck lovers in here. What you have to remember is that not all people are created equal, that being said some people would choose the lessor rought to change or repair their trucks and that is totaly on them, all you can do is to give your opinion and leave it at that. Hope to see you around in here after your subscription expires. :chevy::chevy::chevy:

I bought a Saturn really cheap and needed some info, so I joined a Saturn forum. I had to sort through a SERIOUS amount of garbage to find one tiny bit of useful info. Also had technical questions that I posted get bombarded by, well, idiots.
What I'm saying is: you have to look past the nuckleheads and keep doin what you're doin.
I for one value your opinion and would not like to see your experience go away.

I don't know what posts you have been reading, but happy trails.

There are jerks or "know it alls" on every truck site you may find, just like life.

I'd like you to stick around. Really! If I might make a suggestion - just lurk for a while and when (and if) you see a post by someone who really shows an interest in "doing it right", then you can send them a PM. I've gotten plenty of good advice via PM from folks who wanted to stay out of the posts cause they tended to get cluttered with arguments.

I always say thanks.
I always post pics of the success story. That way the friends who helped me can see the rewards of their good advice.

I'm not gonna give out names here, but there are a select few members that I send a PM to so I can skip all the mumbo jumbo and get advice from someone who has been turning wrenches and has results that speak for themselves.

Just sayin that your input isn't a wasted effort.

One thing I've learned over the years is accepting the truth behind the phrase: You can lead a horse to water....

I think you should hang around and keep giving correct and safe advice. If the person you are helping chooses to go against it, so be it, it is their life and their project. But the good thing about sound advice on a forum is that people who DO choose to do it the correct way and safe way will come through later on, read your posts and use it. Shade trees will always be shade trees. Don't let them get you down. Just ignore them and feel confident you did the right thing.

I usually go through a search and read tons of threads for the info I'm looking for and after a while can see a trend and weed some out and use others that will be helpful. It's a waste of knowledge and experience if you leave now and folks looking for correct information in the future (not the ones flaming now) will be the losers.....

More than likely you will not come back or stay on this forum because of PRIDE that you keep your word about leaving us. If you just read the previous comments and take them to heart I think that you will realize that a few people do appreciate your expertise. So from some one that is still learning I'm asking you to stay.

I also agree with all of the above and your statements. I try and be partial to all members as some have 50+ yrs experience and some have days. Some are 15-16 year olds on 1st projects and some are 60 year olds on 1st projects. I think what we have to keep in mind is that everybody has different opinions good, bad or indifferent. I have spoken about things here (and in life) that I had little knowledge of or just been taught or learned bad information. There are also alot of things that I can lend knowledge too in my own ways and I feel this speaks for the majority of the members here. I have read both good and bad info here, some just hear bad info and some just don't know, but we all learn either way. This is a place to chat, learn and share all of our opinions and experiences in a common bond that we share through these trucks both good and bad. I feel that with your knowledge and experience that ive seen on this board that you'll take alot of it with you that will never be shared with others who come here if you leave. I don't know the events personally that lead you to this decision, but I hope that you reconsider and stay a member and help keep this board going with what you have to share.

I understand your frustration. I post very little because of the same issues. Those that are looking for a argument. I just read posts but felt compelled to say good luck.

this sight is one of many sites that i have been on and the only one i go to every day. and the reason is that almost everyone has alot of good things to say and don't argue like alot of other sites. but you are always going to have some that are going to tell you that there way is right . even if it is unsafe or totatlly stupid. you just have to ignore ignorance. i hope you change your mind and stick around

Hey Tincan don't leave this forum because of a few *********, I believe that the majority of people here are good honest truck loving people. You just had a bad streak of ********* that's all, I for one appreciate you and your help. You offered to send me some parts and didn't even ask for postage and not just anyone here would have done that. Don't let a few rotten apples spoil the whole tree. It will take time to weed out the ********* so don't let them rain on your day...Vernski:sumo:

Just do what I do, if someone posts a problem and you are 100 % sure you have the solution , then private message them ... That's what I do .. I know carbs and engines because that is what I do for a living .. IF I see hookey posts that are just going to lead someone down a rabbit trail then I just private message them .... I don't (like a few on the forum) ream the one with incorrect advise and tout my wisdom .. I have had it happen to me and I just show them they are wrong and go on .. I have had one guy follow my posts so he could tell me everything I knew was wrong ..... we don't need people like that on the forum,... I hope that is not what happen to you .. I have seen the guy do it to other people too...

hey tincan hate to c u leave.im very new on this site.and this is my first site and hopefully my last,due to all the helpfull info i've received.yes i have encountered a few negative replies.but you know what i ignore them,because nobodys perfect.so just saying.good luck to you.
