Valve covers... What do you guys think?

4 Attachment(s)
My valve covers came in today and I am just not sure they go with my motor. I have quite a bit of chrome and just not sure that the cast aluminum works right with it. Seems like I have too many finishes all trying to work together. I also had my eye on some chrome ones that are the second two pictures.

What do you guys think? Attach some pictures of any you think might make a better option. Thanks

Sharp rig you have there!! I tend to like sticking with one finish/style. All chrome or all aluminum. To me, when you mix too many colors or finishes it gets too "busy" and doesn't flow well. Either way, that's one hot looking engine bay!

The cast aluminum covers w/ polished chevrolet letters look best to my eyes:)

They make the slant edge style that you just got in chrome, also.

Another vote for the cast covers, but the chrome also looks at home in your gleaming engine compartment. You have done a ton of work in there!

I vote for retaining the cast aluminum, but paint them to match the body, excepting the "Chevrolet" and BowTie emblems

First pic is awesome. Alum valve covers look the best. Chrome looks cheap on valve covers. Alternator and small bits yes, but on something big like valve covers you need aluminum.

I think the gray covers play well with the rest of your engine look.

BTW...hate to be such a hawk, but If you decided to sell the chrome ones let me know. :chevy:

I second this!! As stated before paint the cast all but letters id probably go body color but to me they even look better. bare! Definatly more of a high end look!

Thanks all for the thoughts and suggestions. Sounds like the cast aluminum are the front runners in the eyes of people who know best!

Maybe its just the picture but the cast aluminum covers make the enginee look bigger.
I like them

Cast aluminum stands out and looks great. Too much chrome sometimes causes other quality details to get washed out with too much "bling" in my humble opinion.

I agree totally with keeping the cast ones. They look great and break up the gleam. All chrome looks tacky to me. but thats just my opinion.

SatcoJim,
Is that your motor? Really Love it… I have your motor picture in my pinterest "Man Board" pictures as inspiration :). I have painted my brake booster and master cylinder with the dark cast color and love it so thinking that could be and eventual way of changing these up. That would give me one unified cast color, which seems to be what you have done. I have used VHT new cast with a true automotive 2 part clear, how is yours done?

Quick side note: Did you custom fab the firewall ac cover or is that something that can be bought off the shelf somewhere. I like the smooter look.

BugzC10,
Yes they are Proform 141-925

Re: Valve covers... What do you guys think?

Thanks Toxic......my motor and currently out of the truck at the moment...broke a few piston ring lands!!!! Can't wait to get it back on the road.

...and yes, I have catalyzed clear coat over the top of some regular basecoat and rattle can colors.....seems to hold up pretty well. Only issue is that clears will yellow in really hot areas. I had cleared my oil pan and it yellowed where is was closest to the headers. I've also seen it yellow on intake manifolds.

The AC cover came with my Vintage Air kit.....I just painted it to match.

Your motor looks great with both valve covers, but the cast covers give it a more serious look.....choices choices!!!!

Id paint the valve covers and intake same color as your heads and block. Cast looks great on a trailer queen but will oxidize and be shabby looking on a dd pretty quick.

My vote is for the aluminum. I think they look great on your engine. Really wish I could find something like that with the GMC logo!
