New here and my first truck!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Hello my name is carter I just got a truck it's my first truck I'm turning 15 in July. My truck is a little project for my dad and I. The truck was bought i couple of weeks ago and it has a lot of new parts. It needs some things like a motor and trans it also needs to be a lot lower!!! I do have some questions and will have a lot more I'm sure. My first question is about lowering the suspension. I would like to know some suggestions to where to buy the parts I know I will need spindles, flip kit and hangers/shackles.
Thanks carter

Welcome to the Forum from Texas!

Sharp look ride you have there, post some more pictures when you get the chance! :metal:

Okay on lowering the truck, you can get parts from summitracing.com, belltech, DJM, McGaughy's, Western Chassis, and most of them will sell a complete kit, and will also have listed the specs of the drop it will give you.

Welcome Carter! Nice looking truck. You're lucky to have a project to work on with your old man.

I did my drop 17 years ago, I don't remember who I bought it from. I'll let the recent guys chime in. Just don't go for cheapest. Find quality and save for it if you have to.

Have fun!

I went with DJM 3" drop spindles and cut one coil for about a 5 inch drop, and went with a belltech flip kit in the rear. How low are you wanting to go?

my goal is about 6/7 give or take a few inches but as low as my budget will let me. so far plans are a djm 3" spindles and a flip kit but I need to get a motor and trans so what's more important? its one of those deals. what would you recommend for brands of parts?

I would definitely say motor and tranny is the most important thing

Can't really give a definite answer on which parts to use since this was my first time lowering a truck; maybe some of the more experienced guys can tell you which brands to steer clear of. All I know is that I used djm spindles which were good and the belltech flip kit was also great. I had to do a bit of grinding on the spindles to get them to fit, but it wasn't too much of an issue.

I recommend bell tech stuff all the way. Yes it's a little higher in price but its great stuff.

Great looking truck!I just ordered some flip brackets from specialty retail (member on here) that will give me a 5" drop in the back. I then ordered a set of shock extenders for the rear, and some new coil springs from Summit Racing that will give me a 3" drop in the front. I've never done a drop before, so it should definitely be a learning experience. Good luck with your project bud!

That's a really nice truck Carter. Take care of it and it will take care of you. I still have my first truck, bought it when I was 14 like you. That was 19 years ago.

Re: New here and my first truck!!!

Welcome Carter. Im 61 yrs old and just got my first truck too! ive had a lot of vehicles in my life but this is the truck Ill keep and work on as a project. Had it about 3 mos, having a 383 stroker built as we speak. (Its got a half wore out 350 that runs alright, too bad you're not closer. ) I hope real soon to 3in spindle drop and flip the leafs. Trying to stay away from C-notch for now. I want top of wheel wells at top of tire, or one inch on to the tire. Seems like they're going to rub though. We'll see. Go to youtube type in c-notch C-10, or lowering Chevy trucks, there will be homemade videos. Im no expert and signed up here in Nov...Many people have helped me just by reading what my plans were. You've got a NICE truck dude, lets have fun with em. Kenny from Washington State.
