wow, what a find
I was perusing craigslist and found the truck I have been looking for for quite a long time. I found a one owner 65 short bed step side, 140k original miles, good patina, 230 L6, 3 on tree. Very cool truck. The guy wanted very little for it so..... I bought it, drug it home, washed it. and now I have to figure out how to get the pics from my camera to here. I will keep you posted

Re: wow, what a find
so the plan is to keep the patina look. Also want to drop it 5-7 or so, not sure I can get the pumpkin under the bed that low. Any insight in this would be greatly appreciated. also, I might make some billet drop spindles that will allow me to run the stock drums up front. Don't ask why? Just a thought

Re: wow, what a find
Got the clutch in, linkage all hooked up and working. Had some difficulty getting the linkage to work, but after wiggling the arms at the steering shaft, it all came together. Three on the tree is an odd setup to work on.

Re: wow, what a find
Sweet find! Bomp is a great dude, but don't let him NEAR that truck with a saw!

Re: wow, what a find
I too have been following the Bomp thread. Not sure I have the testicular fortitude to do something on his level.
Thank you all for looking. |
Re: wow, what a find
I fitted up the rotors to the wheel with the rotors off the truck. I want to keep the stock wheels so....wheel spacers are a must. I know some have ground the brakes back to get the needed clearance, I just am not comfortable with that.
I am a machinist so I will make some wheel spacers with a mock hub in the middle so the wheel runs nice and true. Pretty sure these old wheels are hub-centric not stud-centric. One inch wheel spacers should do the trick. Making 4 so the back is spaced same |
Re: wow, what a find
I have discovered my least favorite thing to do.....change ball joints. Mine were factory originals with the rivets. Top one took a lot of grinding, drilling and pounding until it busted loose. bottoms took a good soaking with PB Blaster until they finally broke loose. Got the front end almost back together now. wheel spacers are next

5-7 drop to start out with. Like it.
I promise to leave my saw at home if we ever meet up.http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/sp...ilie/wink3.gif |
Re: wow, what a find
For all you machinist out there, and those of you who just love manufacturing, here is how I made the wheel spacers.
Started with billet round stock http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...or_spacers.jpg Machined hub for disk side http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/..._spacers_1.jpg Machined mock hub for stock wheels http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/..._spacers_2.jpg Put in a few holes and some studs http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...acers_done.jpg And here it is...6 lug stock wheels on disc brake conversion http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/..._the_truck.jpg I like the way the wheel is now out by the edge of the fender. Makes the truck look even lower As soon as the new shocks come in I will post pictures of it on the ground. |
