Decided the tbi motor wasnt good enuff so i wanted to do a ls swap and started looking for a 5.3 to swap in and ended up getting a whole 03 6.0 truck fall in my lap at the body shop after i got it home. So i started over!

Then came the hard part, doing my wiring harness! i wanted to use the factory harness from the truck and the factory fuse block and relays, so i frankenstiend the two together (which took many hours of thought and soldering) and made it all look like it was from the day it came out, well with the exception of the ls. :smoke:

What headers did you use? It doesn't look like you had to mess with clearance at all, so I am curious which ones you selected. The closest I've seen are the 2010 -2013 F-body headers.

What transfer case did you use? How did you hook up your speedometer? Did you use the factory sending unit for TBI setup? What are you doing about the voltage, oil pressure, and temp gauges?

Thanks....Enjoy that power!! :gmc2:

Re: 83 Chevy Shotbed Silverado 4x4 6.0 swap

I used the schoenfeld headers for a 88 up, under 300 shipped, they were close to the trans on right side but not to bad, I was working with them on a 4 wheel drive set but they decided these were good. As far as gauges go I used the stock 90-91 burban gauges and t-case. For temp gauge I used the stock sender for a ls1 trans am as they have a 3 wire set up and work with my stock temp gauge. Then used a factory sender for oil pressure in the back of block with an adapter. U can put it in the oil cooler block off plate too which I suggest because of firewall. Everything works perfectly. I'm not a fan of gauges hanging off the dash. Hope this helps and yes it has more power than it needs that's for sure!

As for gas tank I used a stock 87 tank and sender and put the right pump in it for my fuel pressure. It really was simple. There is a pic of the sender and how I set up the lines, I used the safety fittings for a ls1 and pushlock hose to go down to the lines. I reused the fuel lines from the 03 donor up to engine bay.

Dan, do you have the pin outs for the temp sender? I need to do the same thing.

Re: 83 Chevy Shotbed Silverado 4x4 6.0 swap

I took the two wire plug apart and used the plug for the ac pressure sensor which is the same as the temp sender plug, and put them in the same spots and used the third wire for the green temp wire on my factory side harness. If that makes sense, if not I can do a picture to show u in a day or so.
