new wheels and tires and caps

4 Attachment(s)
Just put the new wheels and tires on my 1966 c-10. The wheels are the 6 lug blazer wheels, the tires are 225-75r15 Hankook Optimo with the thin 1 inch white walls, and of course the 66 chrome repro caps.

My truck has 2.5 inch drop spindles and 1 inch front springs and 4 inch rear springs.

I also put the spare back under the bed after moving the gas tank from the rear back into the cab.

Now on to the exhaust work!

Looks great. Love stock caps and skinny WWs on these trucks!

Are the Blazer wheels different? There's a 70 Blazer in my school shop right now. MINT wheels on it, and they're getting taken off for later/wider 80s 4x4 six lugs.

I need to find a spare tire bracket...

The 73-87 blazer wheels are 6.5 inches wide and fit the disc brakes once they have been converted. The stock wheels won't fit without spacers or maybe with a bunch of grinding on the calipers. The blazer wheels are getting kind of hard to find these days.

Dig it. The truck looks great bonehead. I just bought new tires and now I wish I would of gotten the thin WW. Post some pics of the exhaust when you are done.

Thanks for all the comments, I am very pleased with the look and the stance.

I like a stock-ish look, lowered, still functional and drivable, but not cartoon low.

I think its perfect! The one thing I would add.... here in NC you can actually run a 1966 NC plate AND for the front.... a 1966 Charlotte city Tag!! Where in Charlotte are you? I live in Rockwell but work right next to the speedway in Concord. Id love to come check out the truck!!

As for a City Tag the AutoFair and Goodguys ALWAYS has them.

Re: new wheels and tires and caps

Does anyone know what the cost for running a 1966 plate is compared to the standard plate. Never really considered a model year plate, may not be my thing?? I'll have to think about it.

Killer Truck !
In GA its the cost of your actual yearly tag (tax) plus an additional fee for using the "historic License plate" $80.00 in my county. You have to carry the official plate in the truck along with a "Affidavit of Ownership" document that they provide you that has all the related detail for the two tags. If you are ever pulled over by your law enforcement you may be asked to present those papers. I have a 1965 tag on mine :metal:

Re: new wheels and tires and caps

One of the little known facts about displaying a license plate in North Carolina is that if your vehicle is old enough, you can display the tag that was issued the year the vehicle was made instead of the one assigned to the current vehicle registration. In general, you have to have the current tag available to show to somebody when they ask for it (put the tag in the glovebox, trunk, or under the seat), your vehicle has to be at least thirty-five years old, and the tag that you use has to have the year stamped into the metal and this year has to be the same as the year the vehicle was manufactured.

The complete text of G.S. 20-63(d) reads:

"Registration plates issued for a motor vehicle other than a motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer shall be attached thereto, one in the front and the other in the rear: Provided, that when only one registration plate is issued for a motor vehicle other than a truck-tractor, said registration plate shall be attached to the rear of the motor vehicle. The registration plate issued for a truck-tractor shall be attached to the front thereof. Provided further, that when only one registration plate is issued for a motor vehicle and this motor vehicle is transporting a substance that may adhere to the plate so as to cover or discolor the plate or if the motor vehicle has a mechanical loading device that may damage the plate, the registration plate may be attached to the front of the motor vehicle.

Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle and produced upon the request of any person.

The Division shall provide registered owners of motorcycles and motorcycle trailers with suitably reduced size registration plates."

It is a good idea to keep a copy of this paragraph of the general stature handy in your vehicle along with the tag of current registration just in case somebody isn't up to date and tries to give you a hard time about the one that you have bolted onto the vehicle. Having the year of manufacture tag not only can help provide the correct "look" for an antique, it can serve as a subtle way to answer that question of "what year is it?".

Gorgeous truck!

Re: new wheels and tires and caps

MalibuKasey is correct. And he is also right about carrying a copy of the NC general statute with you. Make sure you print it from the NCGS page only. And when you continue to get pulled for an expired tag, go to the county Attorney as I did explaining that you are in complete compliance and are being harassed. This stopped immediately, and I haven't been pulled in two years. I told the county Attorney it was not my job to educate his officers on the law they are upholding and that they needed to update the training in our county to reflect this law. I have had no issues since.

Yes, those are the wheels I am running on mine, plus the spare under the bed.

Ive never had any issues with the city or state, just county sheriff's. I had one blue light me to see if I wanted to sell my truck...and that did not make me very happy, although I told him I was flattered, I wasn't interested.
