torque converter ?
 
i just got my tranny in the truck bolted the my 283, and there in only enough clearance to fit a penny through, i was just curious if that is normal

When you slid the converter into the tranny, you have to alignments to shoot for, the splined input shaft, and the pump shaft, which aligns with the 2 notches on the converter hub. Did you get a "double clunk" when installing it? Once your converter is fully nested on the pump shaft, you will actually have a slight bit of clearance between the flexplate and converter, which will help indicate that you are fully into position, hence your "penny" spacing. You will then have to pull it tight against the flexplate when you tighten up the bolts. I'm currently in the process of bolting up a 700R4 and I'll see if I can get a pic posted of the clearance between the converter and flexplate before it is bolted together.

That seems about right. I've had some with a little more, and some that were a little closer. They all worked perfectly.

always check, double check, triple check, it can feel like the TC is in the trans but just destroy things if not and run.....

here is some pics I did bolt the converter to the flywheel, and I do believe I did it right, heard the to clicks, turn it clock wise, made sure there was a 1 in space
