Where can I get decent wiper arms?
1 Attachment(s)
Anyone know where I can get a set of Trico or Anco wiper arms? Or at least a decent set? I purchased this made-in-china set and they are junk. I sent the first set back because they were too long and they sent these for replacements. They are so thin that they don't hold the blades and flop around when you run the wipers. They are about half as thick as my originals and you can see how much they bend just from the spring pressure. Also they won't seat fully on the searated knob. Other places have them but I'm afraid to order another set as they might be like these.

Yes someone please reply with a good place to get a set. I still need to buy mine. Maybe I should have my old set re chromed?
Russel Ashley, how did you install the screening behind the grill in the photo? I have been staring at mine trying to figure out how to install screening. |
Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
I need some good arms, too.

Even cleaned up and painted. That would be cheaper than a windshield. at least until something better comes up. |
Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
I don't think this will help but there are some parts that may be of future use.

Unfortunately the only way around this so far is to restore the organals.

"Russel Ashley, how did you install the screening behind the grill in the photo? I have been staring at mine trying to figure out how to install screening."
I used aluminum screen from the Ace Hardware store. It's flexible and easy to make conform to the cowl cover. I cut it to the shape I wanted and then used hot glue around the edges to hold it in place in the cover until I installed it. When the cover is screwed down the screen is sandwiched between the cover and the ribs on the cab and can't come out. I can't remember for sure, but the hot glue might be the only thing supporting it at the ends near the wiper posts but mine is holding OK. I got caught in a rain storm two weeks ago and it didn't loosen it. This doesn't seem to affect the air flow through the vents at all. |
Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
Where did you order those wiper arms . So we all can stay clear of ordering there.

Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
I ordered them from BowTie Bits in Kansas, but they get them from the same source as all of the other suppliers so there's no need to single them out as a bad source for parts. I've bought most of my stuff from them and this is the first thing that I've got that I'm not satisfied with.

Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
Anyone had any luck with this? I tried Mill supply at this link.
http://www.rustrepair.com/PANELS/47-...M-5054354L.HTM. I called the number and was told that they don't have the arms. I also called Obsolete Chevy Parts in Nashville, Ga. and they said their's were also made in Taiwan like the ones I already have. NAPA has arms for a Jeep CJ7 that are stainless and look similar but are one inch shorter than what we need. I still have my originals but only one is usable so I'm thinking of taking them apart and combining parts from the new and old and see how that works out. |
Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
Sounds smart to me....but what do I know. In Southern California it rarely rains and I won't be driving my truck in the rain anyway. I planned to leave my wipers off (unless I get a ticket!) Then if I do I'll put on the polished stainelss CHinese ones cause.....they're SHINEE!!!!! lol. The chrome whore strikes again!
Incidentally, if the Jeep ones are good just a bit shorter what does it matter? You could still see well enough most likely. |

It's a hydrophobic material that you just spray on. Rustoleum now makes it rattle cans, the system is called neverwet. I'm considering just throwing this on my windshield. My only concern would be the how hot the windshield gets while the truck is sitting out in the sun. What do you guys think? |

Are you SURE Rusto is marketing it? Doesn't it want to jump out of the spray can? |
Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
Ha ha ha
That'd be great! Here it is (somehow) still in the can. :) http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleu...6#.Uc3c5Pm1H5w |

I gave up on finding any good wiper arms so I took my new Chinese set and my original set apart and combined them. I used the bases from the new ones and the arms from the old ones. I couldn't find rivets so I put them back together with stainless allen head screws and locking nuts. They are metric screws that will just fit through a 1/8th inch hole. The springs in the new ones seem to be far too strong and I think that was part of the problem with them. I got new springs from the hardware store that feel more like the originals did. I don't plan on driving it in the rain much but the way our weather is I have to be prepared.

Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
You're just too inventive! looks great! I hope mine never sees rain either. However, I paid 200 bucks for that Newport wiper system~ it'd better work in the rain! lol I just don't understand the aftermarket makers~! some stuff is ok, and other is crap!

Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
good job russell ashley!!!
and yes d;ne all other stuff is crap - so much for stuff made here - o thats right !!! it ain;t !!! |
Re: Where can I get decent wiper arms?
I was going to suggest using combined parts. My arms are a combination of stock parts salvaged over a couple of years.
I'm trying to find larger blades to fit the stock arms. The wiper path is low enough that I almost have to duck to see when it's raining. |
