What are you guys using for goosenecks?
 

I would like to see what everybody is using for a gooseneck hitch. What are you using and why? What would you change about it?

Plates, turnovers, homemade, flat bed built in, and everything else inbetween is welcome! Pics are appreciated!

Last two trucks here with goosneck hitch, go with the B&W turnover ball made in Kansas, never fail and easy storage of the ball.

Sorry for not mentioning earlier but I'm aware of B&W. Had it in 3 family trucks. Loved every one of them. It has been a while but I don't think they make a B&W for square body chevys. I appreciate the suggestion. I would still appreciate pictures to get an idea of look and layout. Flashed, I saw the c30. Beautiful dually. That bed has seen some work though. Would look great with a CM hauler bed painted to match.

The trucks with gooseneck hitches here were newer than square body, the 06' and 10', prior to that it was all bumper pull. But we needed to upgrade to the 3 horse slant, any decent horse trailer will be gooseneck.

But I have never heard of a problem with the B&W or had one, also they may be a bit more popular beings they are made right up the road, not to mention half the feed mills and stores sell B&W hay rings and feed bunks.

In my 84 K20 I have a plate bolted to the frame with a ball welded to the plate. In my 01 Duramax it has a fold down ball it seems a little loose but the truck might get a flatbed with a hitch built in soon. In Dad's 08 he has a set of fithwheel rails with a ball that pins in to them. I really like the B&W I have used them in a few company trucks and love the flat useable bed when not towing, or how a fithwheel can be used with the hitch if you have a camper. I will be changing the 84 over to a B&W after paint and body work.

I got this hitch that was originally for a GMT400 series truck. I wanted the centre section for the removable ball basically, and I had to build my own rails to mount across the frame. I simply made a couple L pieces out of 3/4" plate. Seems to work fine and just squeezes in under the box. Of course I couldn't tell you a brand name of the hitch if my life depended on it. It was brand new, but out of a sea can of mixed pieces one of the hitch shops had.

Only thing I'd do differently is flip the bolts around and have the 3/4" plate tapped out so I could just thread them in from the bottom. The way they sit right now, they contact the bottom of the box pretty good, but nothing that makes a bulge in the box floor.

Also, I haven't used it for towing a thing in the nearly 2 years it's been in the truck.......but it's now there just in case I guess.

That's quite the variety of setups. I appreciate everybody's input. Could somebody post pictures like ssapach did? ssapach, how much did yours cost from the hitch shop?

I think I paid $250 for all the pieces, but only ended up using that centre section.

It was nearly 2 year ago now. Not sure if that's a normal price or a little on the cheap side because that shop wanted to get rid of some older stuff.

I don't have a gooseneck, but I have a 5th wheel hitch built into the bed of my 73, does that count as something or would I need a different post? >.> it was bolted to the frame. I'll get ya some pictures later today.

This is my 73 5th Wheel Hitch built into the back of my bed yet its bolted to the frame. Kinda wanted to know if anyone has seen this type of work before.

My parents had that setup in their 84, just the center plate with the ball. I couldn't tell you any other details, that was 20 years ago.

I install 5th wheel rails,and use a goose neck adapter or put in the 5th wheel hitch, with rails you can pull any thing out there.

I've seen that setup a couple times. Most people don't want to remove the whole bed, so they set the whole plate on top and drill through the sheet metal to the frame. This is less work but it's a pain working around a ball that won't move so some people put a knockoff turnover in the plate to make it easier to work around. It's still a PITA working around a plate sticking up if your working in the bed or unloading stuff.
