Serpentine tensioner is bouncing, anybody have experience with this issue?
Noticed last night when i finally got the truck fired up that the tensioner on my serpentine setup is bouncing. Probably bounces up and down about 2 or 3 degrees. The serpentine setup is off of a 96 chevy pickup. All of the front end accessories are brand new(alternator, ps pump, compressor), new tensioner, and new idler pulley. Just curious what could be causing that bounce??? Anybody have any experience with this?
I did have to go with a trial and error approach on finding a belt the right length. Could a belt that is slightly too big be the culprit? |

It's just doing it's job. As long as it is in the working range (should be an arrow and scale on tensioner), you should be good. The belt will flex, and the tensioner is there to keep it in check.

Oh ok. So a little bounce or fluctuation is normal. Its really quiet so that makes sense. I will look for the scale. Honestly didnt pay much attention to it. Was so worried on getting the dang motor working i just breezed past that part. LOL

If it's only a degree or two, that is normal.

Its definitely very minimal. More like a shimmy. LOL. Almost seems to be in perfect harmony with the lope of the cam. LOL

That's what's causing it, your lopey idle, belt tension changes as rpms go up and down with the lope.

All the above is true. If you want to be thorough you can watch the pulleys as it runs and visually see if one is if center. All will prob be to some extent but should be less than an 8th runout
