Doin '69
So, I was goofing off on Craigslist a few weeks ago and found this. A 1969 Chevy C10 with a 307 and a 3 speed manual. It looked pretty clean in the pics so I hit the guy up and went out to take a look.
Talking to the guy he said it just had a new electric fuel pump and battery, but it had a blown head gasket(no biggie). I spent about 2 hours going over it looking at everything front to back and inside out. There was very little rust. The worst of it was on the doors. So being the semi-ass that I am, I lowballed him pretty good and he came back with not much of a counter offer. The deal was done. I picked it up for a whopping $400 big ones. On the way home picked up a complete engine gasket and seal kit, head bolts, oil filter and a thermostat and spent another $75. I'm in this thing for $475 now. Here are the pics http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps41e9c455.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps35207c36.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5c6eb2bf.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psb49d9a77.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps1f5099a3.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5b0d6d24.jpg I know it flipped at least once http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psa90db35b.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc93b9a63.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psa5a10691.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps169858b3.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps9fe25d0e.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps230d9431.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps479a7448.jpg And yes my former pride and joy the S14 was kicked out of the garage http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps2abec2f7.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps1842fcfb.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps648779fc.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...pscd903c7f.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps6fab2aaa.jpg As of now only plans are too: reseal the motor and clean it clean and seal the frame clean and repaint the engine bay make the interior mint fix the rust on the doors and dent wheels (big chrome rims or old school with big white walls) Down the road SLAM IT and make it a Sled. Next day I did about an 45 minutes worth of work and got this for. The heads are unbolted and read to be pulled. I got hungry so I stopped. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc65f0dd5.jpg Ok got the heads off and here's what it looked like. 8, 6, 4, 2(L-R) http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps153ee0e3.jpg 1, 3, 5, 7(L-R) http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps4263aefc.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5982a2e7.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...pse2f98b5c.jpghttp://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...pse2ee8ab9.jpg I left for Yellowstone on the 21st of June and got back on the 26th. When I got back I finish cleaning up the heads, intake mani, block and oil pan then she'll be put back together. This is were I'm sitting with it right now. The heads are back on just need to torque them down(forgot to get a torque wrench from work). I should have it done and running by Monday. |

A few days ago I went ahead and pulled the front end off and pushed it outside to hose it down. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psec20273e.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps0db12749.jpg Today I spent about 30 minutes and put the heads and intake on. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psaf34d622.jpg I still have the timing chain cover gasket and oil pan gasket to change out and she'll be good to go. |
Re: Doin '69
Nice little build you have there. Keep the pics coming

Re: Doin '69
This week I've been slowly working on the rust.
Here is the passenger side. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps04d7ae4b.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps734eb0b9.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psdaed06ef.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps2b6711d0.jpg Drivers side http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc1c54f8a.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps37897147.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psd4c3e532.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5f3dfb6c.jpg Started patching up the passenger side vent. Yes, the welds look like crap, I was having issues getting in there at a good angle. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps7171cd83.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps4d871aa5.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps256c99f2.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc9d64976.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc2b7aaa7.jpg Coated up http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps6f17abb7.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps7d8087ef.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps03dbb4d8.jpg And the outside patched up and coated http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psce983d16.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psb0dce022.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...pscc75c7f4.jpg I'm hoping to have it all done this weekend so I can start driving it. I need to park my car, its killing me on gas. |

Re: Doin '69
So, its been a long while since I've updated on the truck.
I got pretty much all the rust on the cab taken care of. I got the rest cut out and patched and welded up. After I was done I went sprayed it down with a nice undercoating for now till I get some carpet and stuff. I also ran in to another problem with the motor. I think my heads are worpped enough to let coolant into the oil pan and into the exhaust. Oil isn't getting into the coolant, just coolant in to the oil. I'm going try getting the heads machined then go from there. If that doesn't work, I think a 350 or 454. But here are some pics of whats been done. http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psbc7d189e.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps1b2f754e.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psd979fd79.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...pse1c88b39.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps06276d5a.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps9bbbe169.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psaa7ed303.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psd4c3e532.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps37897147.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...psc1c54f8a.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...59bbe327-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...85d3d838-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...e0d44084-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...d25bc7ed-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...3b5b42e7-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...38a91ba0-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...adace0e8-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...09537763-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...2b0665d3-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...efce62d0-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...cc0502ad-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...761467de-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...d12a7ea2-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...80df2807-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...368928f9-1.jpg And here's the motor again http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...2ae58a85-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...a7eb4acb-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...2a18ca50-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...f7ff1b6c-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...e48e5719-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...72d33820-1.jpg http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...4319cb87-1.jpg So, while I'm waiting on the heads to get done I'm going to start shaving the cowling and side makers and whatever else I decide to seal up. |
Re: Doin '69
Not much to update but here are some pics of the cowling I've been working on. Its not finished yet, I had to make some money by custom making some exhaust for a coworker.

Re: Doin '69
What's your plans for the truck?
Mountain Home huh? I'm not to far from there. |
Re: Doin '69
Right now just get the motor in and running. Long term, I'm going to bag it and redo the interior. Then, I'll see where I go from there.
Yeah, I'm here until June. |
Re: Doin '69
Real Kouki car? Or converted? What motor you running? Good looking car.. Good seeing one that isn't a drift missile lol Also good deal on the truck! Came out winning for sure
|
Re: Doin '69
Thanks! Its a converted kouki. I have an SR20 in it with a Holset HX45 waiting to go in.
|
Re: Doin '69
When you get that in your gonna have your hands full! Awesome car man
|
Re: Doin '69
Yeah, the last SR I built in Japan put 473 at the wheels but there was too much lag with the set up I had. So, I'm going to run the Holset this time to get rid of some of it. I run autocross and drift with the car so I want more response.

Nice work on the truck. Keep the pictures coming.:chevy:

Re: Doin '69
Sad day!! I put my tranny on my engine stand to clean it. So, every time I would rotate I would hear jingling from inside of it. I popped the cover off to find a lot of needle bearing just hanging out in there. Not exactly sure where they came from or how bad it is. I just stopped and walked away.
My thoughts are to go ahead and do a TH350 or 700R4 swap or should I rebuild it? I'll be driving the truck to Texas in May/June time frame. I'll also be towing my car with it. Any thoughts? |

Re: Doin '69
Thanks! Yeah, I'm thinking I'm gonna go with the 700R4. I had one in my S10 behind a 383 and it did really good. I just need to find one.
|
Re: Doin '69
I think the silverado's of the early 90's used the 700r4. They seemed to tow just fine. I'd put in a 700r4 anyway for the overdrive. That's what I'll do when I switch.

I finally got to pick up my motor from the machine shop tonight. I got about 2 hours worth of work in. I got this far, maybe I can finish it up tomorrow. I'm still waiting on my oil filter adaptor to get here though.
