A/C pump shield...rare?

Spotted this on a 70, anyone ever see one?

That's pretty cool. The "General Motors Approved" label makes me think it might have been a dealer-installed item.

As far as rare: I've worked on a lot of GM cars and trucks over the years, and I don't recall ever seeing one before.

I know the stock pumps threw oil because mine does.

I thought I would have some fun with this but nobody wants to come out and play, so...
I spotted this in a 70, mine
is it rare? Yes, I made it yesterday.
South of the border? If that's where Folgers coffee comes from.
The GM decal is the center cut out of a washer bottle decal from Year One.
The 10 stamp is hand painted.
the ageing was done with scotchbrite, sandpaper and a fingernail.
the edging is small split vacuum line.

I had both battery cables off but failed to notice the screw in positive stud on the side and during mockup I arced the shield to the bracket and fried the compressor. Probably a couple hundred dollar screwup, so instead of smashing something I made this post to lighten things up.

The good thing is no more oil spatter on the inside of my hood and this thing looks like it belongs there.

If anyone took this too seriously, I apologize.

It looks like it belongs. I think it is just such an "odd duck" item no one knew what to say...

Looks legit, and a good idea to keep oil off the hood.

, great job! I was getting ready to say that it might be part of that rare "Corvette options" that we always hear about. OBTW, I think there might be a market for that.....:D.

Pretty easy to make, takes an older can though, new ones are too flimsy.
And remember to TAKE THE BATTERY OUT.

Re: A/C pump shield...rare?

There was one that was original on some models of GM but I don't remember which ones. It was much narrower then that though. That's a good idea. Mine throws it back on the air cleaner & firewall.

Doggone it! You didn't give me a chance to see it before you spilled the beans. I was going to say it looks like a coffee can (wasn't sure what brand) with vinyl edging and a sticker applied...really. Nice job

Brad you did a great job on that. It really looks good on there. And it keeps Rose from getting her paint dirty. :metal:

Rats you beat me to it,to me it did look like some type of can and I noticed that rubber trim around it wasn't one piece,I figured it was home made. But you never know there's all kinds of factory stuff out there that I'm sure I haven't seen or heard of before....BTW good job especially with labels and everything....
