Old Trucks Leaving the Country
 

My friend works near the Alameda ship yards in CA and sends me pics of old trucks going to the Netherlands. He shows me at least 20 per month in any condition. I guess they are trying to make the ones that remain behind worth more.

I've had European Brokers come thru with semi's and buy every Harley and part they could find in the area. Sometimes what we think is priced too high could be a bargain for somebody else.

A couple years ago I sold my 1976 "mid year" ('74-'77) Porsche 911 that I had restored from badly neglected into very very nice condition (if I do say so) to a guy that exported it to The Netherlands. Those years aren't worth that much here (and especially not in CA where smog rules still apply) for tip top dollar.

Didn't bother me then or now. It's "going home" to Europe; likely to a collector or enthusiast, just as these trucks likely will. And both MAY influence the price of the remaining ones here higher. Works for me!

Yes I am seeing more and more of this there are guys that go around and buy up everything for cheap and then send it out of the country to builders that are paying top dollar. In the last ten years or so the supply in southern cal has almost dried up I used to see 50 and 60 trucks every where that you could buy for almost nothing, but not any more. So if your looking to purchase a new project truck you better find one fast, there will be a day when there are no more.

Oh bullschit. "Selling of America." Buying low and selling at a profit? That's capitalism - and that's our system of choice, last I checked. It's ok if we do it but it's NOT ok if others do it? I thought we WANTED capitalism to spread vs. the alternatives.

American cars have been sold overseas as long as they've been made. Nothing to be alarmed about here folks, move on.

Hello guys..

There are many problems now in the netherlands with the old cars,
Normaly we dont pay road tax with old cars, now the goverment has a short
On money, and changed the rules, we have to pay road tax, with this new rule
People dont buy as much cars and trucks anymore..
Because of that a lot of company's are bankrupt now,
Also for the parts, no one is buying any more parts. Its a shame..
But'!!!! I can tell you, all the cars and trucks that are here don't get scrapped
They get a second life.. We dutchies love the 50" trucks....

If someone overseas wanted to pay what I have invested in my truck that is in bodyshop jail for over 2 years now I would probably let it go with all the parts to reassemble it .I really wish I had left mine as a daily driver beater instead of doing a frame off that may never get finished. I would even consider selling one of my other trucks and a couple of my cars if I could convince my wife ,she dont want me to sell any others .

When i was looking at buying a truck. I couldn't find anything in australia rust free and in ok shape for under $25,000. So i looked to import and i had 2 offers before i even got it home and of the trailer.

They can all by dynacorn cabs and put em on some old junk frames they got there. They likely just pry off the serial numbers in those countrys and reissue a number anyway. Thats what we are loosing here and the not repoped parts too.

There were millions of these trucks built, and for 50 plus years most people let them sit in a field to rot away, its only been the last 10 years that people have started to relies that they are worth anything at all, I used to try to buy these truck when no one wanted anything to do with them from people that would just let them sit in there fields and most of them would tell me no. So I for one am glad that some one is taking a liking to them and trying to do something with them instead of them sitting in a field rotting away. I just hope that there will be some left for me to buy when I need more parts or another build. Thats all folks!!!!!

Well put. the scrappers around here did away with a lot more of the old trucks than will ever get shipped overseas and there are still a lot available but the prices have jumped.

I like to build a truck (or car) every few years. I generally drive it for a few years,then sell it and use the funds to build another. To me, the build is as much fun (or more fun) as owning a finished classic truck. Most of the trucks I have sold have left the country, last one went to Australia, which is fine by me. I got close to my asking price and the buyer got a truck he wanted.( I did not have one serious buyer from North america, had three australians dealing on this truck)Doesn't matter to me which country the funds come from. I am happy to see that there is world wide interest in our hobby and glad to help anybody from any country wether it is by selling them parts,finished cars, or giving advice

William Randolph Hurst bought up half of Europe and shipped it to southern California until our fed gov taxed those doing same so much they had to stop. What comes around goes around I guess. Don't wait too long to buy yours! They are getting scarce around here too.
