Steering column compatibility
I found a great deal on a tilt column for my 82 silverado. It is in a 89 Suburban though. Was wondering if it would work. Any ideas? I'm thinking the wiring harness may be different cause of the wipers on the turn lever.

Good question...was about to ask myself.

Re: Steering column compatibility
It isn't correct for your 82. The 84 and newer steering columns have the wiper switches on the column. It will bolt in but wouldn't look right.

Re: Steering column compatibility
I'm not to concerned with originality but I just wonder if the wiring is the same and if it will plug in and work as far as the signals.

Re: Steering column compatibility
It will plug in. You will just have a big useless lump on the left side of the column that houses the wiper switch(this is an extra plug that comes off the column) You just wouldn't have anywhere to plug that in. It seems like a lot of work not to have everything functional.

Re: Steering column compatibility
I have my 88 to put in my 78 just for the tilt
same issues to work out but I'm sure I've heard it's been done here before when i first looked at it ,it would seem if you pull the wires out of the old dimmer plug ,just put them in the new plug for the newer style wipers a different story but I also got the full wires to fuse box etc to figure it out Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Steering column compatibility
Get the gauge bezel from the suburban and swap that over too. You'll need to relocate the headlight switch slightly for it to fit, but then you can delete the wiper control from the dash and use the one on the column. No extra holes or unused switches, etc.
