Door handle gaskets?

Just picked up a set of NOS outside door handle gaskets. One side has a backing with an "adhesive" side. When I peel the backing off, do I stick the gasket to the handle, or do I stick it to the truck?

adhesive is supposed to be towards door I suspect as I've got several OEM doors with the OEM gaskets still attached to the door and they are stuck to well for it to have been the other way around.

Definitely goes toward the door. The gasket might be a little bigger than the actual handle, so with the adhesive faced out you might have adhesive exposed.
