68 2500 6Cyl GMC fender emblems??

The previous owner of my 68 put 67 fenders on it so at some point I will replace them with correct 68's but I was wondering what would be the correct fender emblems for a 68 2500 2WD 250ci LWB stepside Custom.. I can't seem to find anything online.. Did they even come with anything??? Any pics would be fantastic..

Re: 68 2500 6Cyl GMC fender emblems??

I believe they'd be the same 68-72. The reproduction ones are probably only made for "optional" trucks. I can't recall what a standard 6 truck would have. They would have the 1500 on them, but not sure if the rest of the filler would just be blank? I have a set of 3500 badges like that and I was thinking that is what those were from. There are V-EIGHT and V-SIX for optional engines. This is a good question I don't think I've seen asked/answered here.

with the amount of 67-72 trucks here still sport their 250ci i am surprised i cant find any pics of fender badges.. it make sense that they would leave the bottom half of that badge empty but i have a hard time believing that it would leave the factory like that... they had to put something there!!! anyone??? anyone??

Did they make a 2500 with a 250 six? Most of the ones I've seen are V8's or V6's.

In 67 the standard drivetain was a 250ci straight 6 or a 283 8cyl... in 68 they dropped the 283 and made the 307 the standard 8... the 250 was always the standard 6 banger for the 67-72 trucks.. even in the 3/4 tons.. it stills seems odd to me that someone would want a 3/4 ton truck with just a 6cyl but i have to say my old 250 is a pretty damn mean 6... and according to my vin that's the plant it came with :).... now if I only knew what was on the fender!!!!

Didn't mean to doubt you. I knew the 250 was the standard engine but I wasn't aware the 2500 came with a 250 also. After leaving the service in '67 I worked in the oil fields and the company had several 2500 GMC's -some V8's but most had the 305.

I found this thread from the forum about a 68 GMC; look at 2nd photo; it's tough to make out and maybe you can PM him for a better one; assuming it is an original 250 GMC base truck.

Here is a pic & listing from EBAY. Sellers seems unsure, as do we, of it's origin. This might be the correct emblem. The dimensions are correct for a fender emblem.

Perhaps someone with another 68 will confirm this.

That emblem is altered. They all had the insert. The one I have just has 3500 in the aluminum insert, the same as others, with only the subdued horizontal lines and nothing else

I had a longbed Stepside '69 Checy C/20 with 250/Powerglide,gauges,AM,and front stabilizer bar. Just those 4 options. It had "special paint" that was light grey and all 5 wheels were dark red...yes,from factory

More than likely it had one like my 1500 but 2500 on it and blank on the bottom.

Mine is first pic.

That's what I described. You won't find that reproduced. Going to have to find good used or N.O.S. My 3500s are N.O.S.

Your right on... I checked a couple of venders and the closet thing I could find, which looks almost identical to that pic is listed for 71-72 trucks.

Bear in mind Chevy and GMC trucks have been around a looonnng time. The V8 came out in '55. Even a Corvette had a six for '53 and '54.

I don't recall the engine designation ever being on the fender. The badge had the bowtie and 10, 20, 30, etc. for Chevrolet. Not sure what GMC did.

My '67 C20 came with a 292 six.

I bought a new truck every year starting with '64 and at that time a truck was only a truck. Nothing was automatically included and I remember paying $1625 to include a radio and heater. Somewhere in that time frame they added seat belts and that jacked up the cost $50. When the body style changed in '67 that truck cost me $1700. I never bought a wide bed or a long bed.

too much stuff 07-13-2013 09:44 PM

Since zombie threads are being revived, I wanted to throw my info into this. I bought a '69 2500 last week. The badges are faded, but have 2500 on them.

Re: 68 2500 6Cyl GMC fender emblems??

68-72 used the same emblem. They used an insert for various options and to designate the series (1500, 2500, etc). If the truck had a trim level option, such as Custom, Super Custom, Sierra, or Sierra Grande, that is what would be on the badge. If it was a standard trim level it would show the optional engine, if it had one, or would be blank if it didn't.

The one I'm unclear about is the Custom Camper one. I have a 3500 Custom Camper set. Does that trump engine and trim options? Is that the Custom Camper badge option for 69-71 just like the Custom Camper/20 on Chevys?

My old 70 GMC Sierra Grande Custom Camper had the 2500 V-Eight emblem.

Here a pic, not sure what it looked like before it faded. I'm also not quite sure what emblem fits these holes above the door handle. Truck is a 1968 GMC C20 LWB.
