Coil Spring Plates
 

After cleaning up my frame I noticed right where the spring perch mounts to the plate on the frame, there is some rust accumulating.
Is it safe to remove the rivets and clean up and bolt back with some grade 8?
Any particular bolt size that is good for stock rivets? I hear 10mm might work?

should be just fine with grade 8 bolts, from the pic tho looks like they are kinda sagging in the middle?

Yea that is rust in the middle that is making them sag.
I wanted to grind off the rivets, clean em up and bolt em back in.
I hear 10mm or 7/16 will do the trick? Any ideas as to which will fit better?

I just went out and measured a rivet hole and it measures .41". I have been drilling them out to 7/16" and installing 7/16" (.4375") grade 8 bolts. A 10 mm bolt converts to .3937" so it may be decent in a .41" rivet hole but you don't want to have any slop in the hole because it will shear off easily on impact.

Lmc makes a complete kit to replace all rivets with grade 8.

you can get the rivits out and run a 7/16 tap through the holes without drilling them helps keep everything snug.

i will say the tap will not take a full bite into the hole but it will leave a good enough thread too be able too snug the metal together without useing a nut
(just sayin)of course your gonna wanna put nuts on.

you can attack the rivit with a combo of a cut off wheel/grinding disc,drill,or a cold chisel &bfh.
what i found too work good was to cut a x into the head of the rivit and knock it off with the chisel.of course you could drill a hole an knock'em off also
