Lmc under bed tank?

Lets see how you mounted yours! I don't like the way the straps are so short so I'm thinking of something different...

Re: Lmc under bed tank?

I don't have photos but what I did on my 64 stepper is as follows: Removed bed and trimmed the cross bed piece as necessary to clear the tank. Drilled holes through the frame and tack welded four 1/2" bolts for the tank. I cut a piece of an old tire, 1.5" by 12" to fit over the bolts. Then used the piece of tire as a vibration tamper and double nutted the tank under the frame. BTW I had to bend the top of the frame rail to accomodate the filler hose. I will post photos after my grandson is born. Wife has the camera and is with our daughter playing the waiting game.

So you did the 21 gallon? I bought the 17 and it lines right up with the holes in my frame already. I didn't want to mess with a filler tube and stuff so straight through the bed for me. I look forward to seeing pics. Congrats on the grand kid also...

Re: Lmc under bed tank?

I used one of the pop-up motorcycle tank fillers on the side of the fender. I used some old 1.5" exhaust pipe and some flexible hose from Lowes to make the connection to the tank. It turned out pretty good. Now all I have to do is run some of the fuel out so I can make the connection to the new tank. And thanks for the congrats. Our daughter is only 5 hours away so I am ready set waiting for the call from my wife.

We used the 21 gallon blazer fuel tank, we did not want to use the side filler neck either, so we took the filler neck from a 91 blazer and welded it into the bottom left (top) of the tank, filled in the old filler neck , mounted a in the tank fuel pump for TBI and then cut the hole in the floor to fill the tank. Here are the links and details:

start of process--drilling hole and getting ready to install new filler neck:

after mods:

installed in floor of bed:

Look around in the build and you will see more details scattered throughout.

Re: Lmc under bed tank?

Since my filler cap is non vented I used a cheep fuel filter. I put about a foot of hose on the tank with the filter on the other end and tucked up out of the way of wheel splash.

Re: Lmc under bed tank?

Does the bed have to come off to mount the tank? Or can it be installed with the bed in place?

Re: Lmc under bed tank?

Tank goes on the bottom side of frame so having the bed in wont hurt me. I actually will probably have to drop the tank to mount the bed floor
