Do you use your vent windows?

Just for conversation purposes...I was sitting at a red light in my 69 and got to thinking about the wing windows. Before I quit smoking, I used the driver side religiously but since then, I think it was opened twice!

So lets see how popular the long, gone but not forgotten wing window is today. :D

I'm sorry they ever did away with them. Efficient way to direct air into the cab, though it adds to the drag coefficient!

Old trucks are like feminine pads, gotta have wings!

wnc mountain 07-01-2003 01:50 PM

creates great airflow.

Green72GMC 07-01-2003 01:56 PM

If you can get them to turn back far enough they cool your testicles nicely.

Tynee 07-01-2003 02:08 PM

LOL! @green.

Good one Green!

nightmare 07-01-2003 02:23 PM

since the a/c doesn't work in my truck, i have to use them. in houston, with it getting up to 100º in the shade, i need all the cooling that i can get

Slammed67 07-01-2003 02:24 PM

Vent windows rule!

Randy70C-10 07-01-2003 02:27 PM

If I ever get my truck on the road, I'll use the hell out of them. :)

smokekiki 07-01-2003 02:42 PM

I don't hardly ever use mine.a/c in the burb and no top on the blazer 99% of the time. But I do like the looks of the wing window.

Palf70Step 07-01-2003 02:47 PM

Are they suppose to open????!?! :D

Actually I forget about them most of the time since I'm not driving it much and my 96 has mr.cool in it.

mtdave2 07-01-2003 02:54 PM

yep, a/c baby. my old 71 didnt have it and the wings were always open then.. they work really well, unlike wings on the newer cras and trucks

krue 07-01-2003 02:58 PM

I would probably use mine if they weren't broken!

jays68yak 07-01-2003 03:02 PM

only when i fart and need to get the fresh air to muh face

hanssolo 07-01-2003 03:21 PM

Are they supposed to close? New LMC rubber sticks up thickly toward bottom rear. I have to push it down with finger and then close window.

old Rusty C10 07-01-2003 04:12 PM

always use em for air im fat and hot in the summer!!!

Longhorn Man 07-01-2003 04:34 PM

Some of these responces are awsome!
I use mine all the time, either to help with the crappy ventilation system, or to reduce the wind beating me up when i cruise over 45 MPH.
I wish they still had them, but with the aerodynamic shapes the newer cars have, it wouldn't be the same. (ever notice if you just crack the window on a 'modern' car, the wind comes in and beats the crap out of you?)
As a smoker they are awsome too, if I am too busy to grab my cigg from my mouth to flick the ashes...I just blow the ashes in that general direction, and they magicly go out the vent if i am doing more than 30 MPH with the big window rolled up.

68CST327 07-01-2003 04:42 PM

I voted no in the poll, but I don't think I've ever used them to their full potential. Which is to say, I don't think I've really used them at all. Hmm, you say they're supposed to deflect air onto you? I'll have to try that out, what with the a/c not working and all :)

Longhorn Man 07-01-2003 04:53 PM

If you have your window down all the way, and you open the vent about 2 or 3 inches, it will deflect the wind off your face, but the air will still venilate your cab real good.

Long Knight 07-01-2003 05:43 PM

Use the wings ALL THE TIME! The only reason I ever close them is because where I work someone would steal them off my truck.

71-longbed 07-01-2003 06:07 PM

my driver side door is stuck in the up position so i use all my vents...

68 Stepside 07-01-2003 06:11 PM

I answered "yes, and I am a smoker".....but I quit smoking.....just haven't driven the truck since then :(

dtlilly 07-01-2003 06:19 PM

I too am dismayed that new vehicles don't have them. I smoke and use them all the time.

Yup, and they can also funnel in the occasional bumblebee...

which usually ends up in the same area...

Whoops, yeah I think I got that backwards. Seeing as how the vents open out it would deflect the wind away from you. Thanks LHM for straightening me out.

Now I just have to get out and try that! Darn cold though, I'm sick today, so no driving for me :( Lonely day indoors.
