Door alignment/adjustment
 

Recently bought a Blazer and the doors were fine...took the hard top off today and now the drivers side door is almost hitting the body on the top or the door on the latch side. Can this be done from the hinges or do I new to mess with shimming the body mounts? Thanks!

Don't mess with the hinges. Your body mounts are probably shot. If you shim the mount that is right behind the door openning you can get the door back pretty close. Probably better off in the long run to replace all of your rubber mounts.

Thanks for the reply...I forgot to add that the body mounts are all new...the truck recently went through a frame off. I won't touch the hinges.

Not sure if it was the correct thing to do or not, but I removed the top and replaced all of the body mounts on my 71 2wd. My door alignment looked great afterwards (was not too bad before). I then removed the front clip and doors for painting. I have everything back on it now and took a little readjustment of the clip and doors. Top has never been back on. Has not been driven much but seems to be holding true. I have had to jack it up on all corners here and there while working on it and payed close attention, but again all margins seemed to be maintained. Hopefully, once I get to drive it a lot more (when finished) all will remain. I would guess that when assembled by GM the top would have been one of the last things to go on.

I have been busy, but finally got around around to this.

I got a hold of a copy of the Energy Suspension directions and there was a body mount installed in the wrong location as well as the rubber mounts left in position #1. It appears they had been replaced before as they had LMC on them.

I still needed to shim #2 to get my doors aligned. How much shimming is considered acceptable on these?

What kinda condition are your rocker boxes in? Thats what is supposed to keep things solid when the top comes off.

Rocker boxes look really good but not sure what's hidden underneath...has me a little worried. Funny thing is, I just recently realized this is the Blazer VA72C10 had on here a couple years ago: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=400951

It's had at least 1 owner in between us and he had some paint work done and body mounts replaced with the Energy polyurethane.
