T56 & Low Hump

I've seen a couple threads where it looks like you can put in a T56 with a low hump. Is that accurate? My long term plans are a T56, but my short term plans are to patch my floor, if I need a high hump I might as well get it in there now.

I think if you keep the stock small block mounts then you have to go to a high hump. TR65 put a LS2/T56 in his truck with a low hump, and I'm swapping in a 5.3/T56 in my '66 and keeping the low hump. It's a tight fit though!

This is with the engine farther back than usual so that makes it tighter too.

Thanks! So it clearly can be done. I think I'll plan that route and repair the low hump, worst case I end up swapping out and cutting it later on...that will be at least a year or two before my project hits that point in the timeline.

No problem, just double check your header/manifold clearance since it gets tight with the engine that low. You'll have to build your own engine mounts too since nobody sells them to mount the engine low enough.

Its a big tranny.... I did a high hump with a gen 1 SBC. Plenty of room now!
I purchase a high hump from these guys.

Worked out great. Best thing I have done yet to the truck was add the 6 speed!!

What does a high hump run? I've talked to Tony before, he'd be a good source, didn't think of that...

Id have to go back and look what I paid for it. It was SUPER nice. No rust just a little pitting in the corner by the gas pedal.
Ill look tonight.

You need the mating firewall piece too. I think I paid 125-140 shipped for both pieces.

I have a donor cab that I believe was high hump, just has no hump. When I pick it up I'm hoping all the bits around that area are solid.
