Saginaw 3 speed rebuild?
Anyone know of any good places for a rebuild kit? links please? also is there any way to make a old saginaw tougher? my input bearing failed and i was wondering..:waah:
thanks guys! |
Re: Saginaw 3 speed rebuild?
http://www.drivetrain.com/ is a provider of transmission rebuild kits. Their supplier (might be Transtar??) supplies transmission rebuild shops as well.
I ordered a rebuild kit through a local tranny shop for my Nissan Hardbody transmission (the shop's Canadian supplier was King-O-Matic). The kit was fine. The synchros looked a bit lighter than OEM, but it's in and it works. |
Re: Saginaw 3 speed rebuild?
They don't get much stronger but will hold 350hp pretty reliably as long as you aren't trying to launch like a drag car. Of you have arms and legs you can probably do the rebuild yourself at home. You can look up the kit online. In your other thread I gave you a link on a Saginaw rebuild from a circle track company. In that article they replace the input bearing with a heavy duty NASCAR style bearing that had more load bearing capability. You can prob also get new gear clusters that are hardene better but that will prob cost you more than its worth.

Re: Saginaw 3 speed rebuild?
...and... a Saginaw 4 speed is a direct bolt-in swap (if you happen to find one).

They're just a nice little trans for light duty use. K |
Re: Saginaw 3 speed rebuild?
Why spend the money on a 3 speed when there are plenty of 4 speeds out there? I haven't met anyone using a manual 3 in decades now.....

Now you have. I run three speeds because I'm not cutting a hole in the floor for a 4 speed shifter. |

Funny story: this is my buddy Bill, from Chicago - http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ps4b488293.jpg He ordered this car with the three speed manual - because his '67 GTO had the three speed manual and he liked it so much. The car was stolen (and recovered) in the early 70's: witnesses said you could hear the gears grinding as the thieves drove away, probably because they were not familiar with how to drive the three speed. (...back to topic...) K |
Re: Saginaw 3 speed rebuild?
LOL! and i already have a hole cut in my floor because long story short my truck used to have a inline 6 i threw in a 350 and the headers hit the shift linkage so i just bought a hurst kit and converted it
