photos of pre-79 headlight mounting
Hey guys,
I'm in the finishing stages of doing a cab swap on my '78 and I'm a bit stuck! A buddy of mine pulled the front clip and when he pulled the headlight pots I wasn't around. There are 2 stud things and a spring. I can't figure out how the headlight pot is held in place or where the spring hooks to. On top of that it looks like he stretched the crap out of one of the springs. Its still the '78 front clip. HELP!! |
Re: photos of pre-79 headlight mounting
There should be a little slot on the bottom where the springs hook to. There are almost half circles that the 2 studs slide into and then screw into the core support. It sounds weird but it's pretty self explanatory once you start looking at it. I'll see if I've got any pictures of how they go together.

See if this works.
http://imageshack.com/a/img818/9643/5xs3.jpg Well bah. Ok, so there is the photo. The headlamp bucket has two notches in it for the adjuster screw heads and then the spring hooks in to a little divet. Sorry, that's as far as I can get w/out the next photo. |
Re: photos of pre-79 headlight mounting
Didn't have any pictures so I took my buckets off and got a picture.

Thanks guys. Mine looks the same. I'll try again. Maybe it's just because my springs are pooched. Or because I'm an idiot

Re: photos of pre-79 headlight mounting
So the problem ended up being that the guy who pulled my headlights stretched the crap out of the springs
After spending an hour at the local auto parts store it became apparent that finding replacement springs wouldn't be easy. I went home and compressed the springs with vice grips and then heated them up quickly with a propane torch. after cooling they were good as new again. what I didn't realize initially is that the headlight bucket pivots in the front clip. ball and socket style. thanks again guys. |
