kick panels
 

Hello to everyone, has anyone out there used the ABS kick panels with the Pioneers they come with or purchased the kick panels without speakers and used your own? I'm trying to find out if the ABS panels are worth buying. I'm not to good in making them myself and I really don't have the time to try. If anyone has the panels in their truck please let me know how they're working out, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hard to see in the pic below, but I have them in my 72'. Just be ready to "cut to fit"....they did turn out nice and sound good!! ;)

Are those with the Pioneers w/ 160w they come with or your own speakers? You would think for being so much money they would of been designed to fit in just right without having to cut them. By the way, your interior is really nice. I hope someday I can afford to put buckets in mine.

I bought the ABS ones....and then returned them!

Very cheap apperaring & flimsy. I asked a freind for help that is good with fiberglass and he helped me make my own.

Thanks! Yes, "with the Pioneers w/160w"....all the triming had to be done off the top and around the fresh air handle.

There are allot of people that say the panels are flimsy. I was wondering if there is anything you can do to them to make them more rigid. Did you have that problem? I'm sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to find out all I can about them before or if I buy.

Maybe it's because I bought mine in 2006, but mine were actually really thick. I just bought a set for my mustang and they were thick too. Both sets I had to cut the speaker hole out.

I had to cut my passenger side to fit around the Vintage Air.

You can get really nice speakers at crap mart (Wal-Mart) for cheap now a days. I bought an entire kenwood stereo set with am/fm/cd/aux jack with two good 6" round and two 6x9 speakers for $90 that I put in the mustang.

"Flimsy"...No, I would say the ones I got were 1/8" thick. No problems at all when installing them....sharp new blade in the utility knife, score the lines for the cuts, snaps off.

The way those look I'd be happy with 'em. I don't have the time to make them myself, I don't know if I even can so I think I'm going to just get the ABS panels and do the best I can with them. I think I'll use my own speakers with the same size and depth as the Pioneers that come with them. I just want a set with more watts. I have to get something down there, the speakers I have under the seat sound muffled and I'm not crazy about that. Thanks everybody. I just wish I could get a set of panels that didn't cost a hundred bucks.

Yes Steve, I will do that. I just hope I don't learn any new curse words doing this, LOL. I'm going to get the panels without the speakers and get a set of Pioneers that are the same size and depth as the ones that come with it, only more watts. I'd like to get this done as soon as possible, when it is I'll send some pictures. I don't have much hair left and I'm hoping I still have it when it's over. :lol:

Hi Steve, well I got them and they're in. The like the panels, I don't think they are that flimsy and kind of good to work with. I had to make some adjustments on the passenger panel but none on the drivers side. The panels I got were without speakers and purchased a set the same size and depth as the ones that come with them. I wanted a 3way speaker and they fit good except the grill on the drivers side stuck out to far because of the mid range and wouldn't fit between the grill and parking brake so it's on there without the grill. Oh well, I'll just have to be careful when I use the parking brake. I was thinking of moving the parking brake over but I decided not to mess with it. It's no expert job but it does sound better than the speakers that I had under the seat. I'd send a few pics but I'm not sure how,I never did that on here before. Steve, I meant to say the grill wouldn't fit between the speaker and the brake.

I got them on Amazon Steve. They're 300w Pioneer TS-A1675R 3 way for $39.91 free shipping. The depth and size were right but the middle of the grill is bowed out to protect the mid range. Well at least I didn't pay allot for the speakers so if I push the emergen. pedal and hit the mid range I'll try and find another set that's flat in the front.

Hello SuperC10Tex, I was just wondering what kind of speakers you have in your truck. Are they 2 or 3 way, how many watts and do they clear the parking break? I'm thinking of changing the ones I have.Thanks, George

Steve, I just had to tell you both my speakers are now covered. I found two 6 1/2" Spark-o-matic speakers that I had from many years ago in my shed. I took one of the grills off and seen it was a 3 way, like I put in the panels. I took the grill and tried it on the drivers side and it fit perfect with room between the grill and the parking brake pedal so I put the other one on the other speaker. Better yet there is no name on the grills so anyone that looks in won't know the speakers are Pioneer. What a break, now I don't have to worry about hitting the mid range when I use the parking break. I just wanted to tell you. George
