Another wheel backspacing question
 

Ok I been searching around but have got confused.
I got a 82 chevy swb custom deluxe from my dad. I recently got some 20x8.5 wheels with +35 offset. The lug pattern is 5x4.5 so I need adapters. Well the 8.5" wheel with +35 offset would be 6.1 something back spacing. I was going to buy 1.5" adapters to drop it to 4.6 something offset. Will that clear the fenders and all suspension? I read you need 5" back spacing but that would set me in more right?
