Need help with GM column wiring

I'm installing my wiring harness and the instructions are a bit vague.

I hooked up the column connections leaving the column, but I know I need power supplied to the column to power those wires. Here's a shot of the connection I'm talking about. Question is, which of the remaining wires need to be hooked up to what for all this to work?

Click on this link and go down to page ten and 7.4.5 and you will find the info. I'd (and I am going to ) save this pfd in my document for reference as it has a hell of a lot of info http://static.speedwaymotors.com/pdf/910-64029.pdf That will answer a lot of electrical questions on vehicles.

Just occurred to me that I may be an idiot after all.......

Just a thought, is the power supply coming from the ignition hot (BAT+) distributed to supply the accessories the column controls?

Re: Need help with GM column wiring

Anything that is supplied power from BAT can be run with the key off and imo is a potential cause for a dead battery. Hazards and brake lights are typically powered by BAT. Wipers on GM vehicles are powered by ACCY circuits. Turn signals are powered by IGN circuit. Each of these circuits should be fused separately.

Here is a diagram I made comparing the GM wiring scheme to EZ wiring harness Scheme. Column is a 80's eldo which as the same basic scheme as other GM columns, but also added wires for other features like side turning lights, auto door locks, etc. It lists the pin number/letter and wire color.

On my EZ harness there were 2 plugs, one white one black that also plug into the column at the ignition switch, supplying the power for the column. From what I've seen that's pretty standard with most AM harness kits.

Mine had those too, clipped right into the original ignition fittings.

What I'm wondering is if that red wire from the battery feeds power to the wires for them signals and what not. I have those 3 extra tabs on the other harness from the column that I have no idea what they are for (far right tabs in the picture)

Re: Need help with GM column wiring

you have the turn signals hooked up, the other 3 are options particular to that yr/make column
orrieg's eldo column has key buzzer wires in the same location
i believe i had extras too, it's been a while since i saw that plug on my truk
i know i had plugs for intermitant wipers and cruise control
have faith in yourself, hook up the wires as instructed in the manual

these trucks are pretty basic, well, until we add; cruise, remote start, keyless entry, shaved door solenoids, power windows, power seats, power trunk release, power toneou cover release, stereo, 4 speakers, subwoofer, 2 amps, etc... :D

Re: Need help with GM column wiring

I got wound up trying to overthink EZ's set up too in comparison to the original wiring for the Eldo and truck. finally just wired per instructions and hopefully everything will light up ok. will be finding out it a few weeks.
