Make sure your battery is good and you have a good ground.

battery is good and the connections are strong. and even hooking jumper cables up, still gets no result when i turn the key. the lights and stereo will come on, but no other sound from the key switch. just dead.

Is it an auto trans with nuetral safety switch? Need to get a test light and start tracing where you have power and where you don't.

when i bought it and looked under the dash , it had one of those crazy damn security systems with wires going everywhere! it is all tapped into the back of the ignition and i am thinking that is where the problem is.

Fusible link? Do you have the second power lead to the fuse box hooked up? It bolts to the inner fender on an isolator, which feeds the fuse block.

Re: dead burb 1972 gmc
found the issue! when i replaced the starter and the positive battery terminal going to the starter, i only reattached the thin starter wire going back to the ignition. it had worn through in several spots. replaced that and voila, shes running again!
