69-72 horn button assy?
Cr*p...:dohh:
HOW. Do these parts go together correctly. I get No movement (of the silver metal cup)with the screws tightened down. The contact ring is behind it and the cupped end is facing out towards the driver. Posted via Mobile Device |

The round, sort of disk shaped spring goes in like an upside down bowl, then the metal cup, then the plastic ring with the insulators the screws go through. I think...
I'd guess you have the disk upside down. I mocked up the parts from my horn junk pile in a wheel and it feels right. I can snap a pic but too big to post. |

Well... That's exactly the way I have it. Hmmm... I can't push mine in at all. I have a pic but for some reason the board is not letting me upload it. It looks just like Mister-B's pic.

My bottom plate is an aftermarket repop. There seems to be alot of cup to it. Wondering if someone has a decent original theyd sell.

Re: 69-72 horn button assy?
Are you talking about the plate underneath the cup that flexes back and forth? If so, I have one that I'll send to you. It's a little rusty underneath but you can try it. It came in a parts lot that I got so I've never used it or installed it - it's factory so I assume it will work but you're welcome to give it a shot.
Give me your address and I'll send it to you. |
Re: 69-72 horn button assy?
Tom, I think the info you got here is right. I just got mine to work for the 1st time this past week. The problem with mine was the rust in the bottom of the steering wheel wasn't allowing a good connection with the cupped contact ring. Like Mr-B said, just back the three screws off a little bit and you'll probably get the assembly to rock back and forth a bit. Good Luck!

Tom, Funny - I'm dealing with the same issue - for a year. Gotta figure this out. What was your solution?
