Sway Bars on lowered 70
 

What kit ( if any ) are you guys using for a sway bar in the front and rear (trailing arm rear end)?
My truck has a 5-7 drop with 20inch coys but it is in bad need of help to get rid of the body roll!!!

Any suggestions would be great

Most guys are using a (1 1/4) 1 ton sway bar off a 73-87 truck with ECE lowered sway bar mounts or just bolting it to the frame.

X2, I pulled one off of a '81 3/4 ton and ordered bushings and mounts from ECE. Be sure and get the mounts for the lowered truck. Comes with all hardware. You have to grind off two rivots and replace with one of the bolts. Very simple install....

The one on my GMC was (I sold it) a Hellwig. Part number 7423 for the kit, Its $207 at Summit. 1 1/8 solid, powder coated etc. Brackets come with it.

I bought a front sway bar from CPP, I think it was around $165.00. The bar is 1 1/4" dia. and it comes with mounting hardware. They send two kinds of mounting brackets, one for a lowered truck and one for a stock height truck. Grade #8 hardware, seems to be quality parts. It made a huge difference on my truck. I went ahead and put Bilstein shocks on the front when I did the sway bar, so, maybe some of it was quality front shocks. By the way, I have just about the same drop on my 72 SB.

^^ I'm in no way saying the CPP bar is not a good one .. just my personal preference.

I didn't like the end link style mounting, (why I went with the Hellwig bar) but the CPP bar is a little bigger in dia.. Not sure if it's solid (?) but I'm thinking it probably is too.

I'm sure they're both nice as well as others out there. I'd buy the Hellwig bar again though, no doubt. I think Hotchkis has one too.

By FAR this will be a great investment for your truck if you want to pull the body roll out of it. I had the Hellwig rear setup on this truck too and man I'm telling ya, it was on rails. Much, much better. Worth every dime.

Thanks for the info!!! I was wondering if it needed the rear sway bar, sounds like it might be a good idea to do them both

ECE also has a kit with the lowered mounts.

Hey Tim, we offer a couple different sway bar solutions as well. We've got a 1-7/16" tubular front sway bar, a conventional style rear bar, and our Blade style rear bar; or a kit containing front and rear with either the conventional rear or Blade rear bar.

I would definitely recommend running a rear sway bar in addition to a beefier front sway bar. This way you can make the rear tires work through the corners instead of just being along for the ride.
