Floor pan repair Help plz?
Sup guys, Im gonna make my own floor pans to repair the rust. Im wondering what gauge steel I should use, 16, 18, or 22? and if I use 22 will it be strong enough for patches? This will be my first body repairs I have ever done, but I have been welding for years on all types of metal so thickness is not a problem in that dept. An I have no problem make more support bracing if need be.
Thanks in advance guys. |

It would be about 19 gauge from the factory so use the 18 gauge. 22 is way too thin.
I think floor braces were thicker so I'd use 16 gauge on anything like those. |

If your going to make your own, use an old hood. Plenty tough, and probably super cheap from the right person..

cool thx. Hood may be my best bet. 18ga. is hard to find around here. No one carries it. I may just have to order some if I cant find a hood or an old fender.

I made a few patches for my floor & firewall when I did my cab and had to order a sheet of 18 gauge to do it. 18 seems like a good compromise, since I could work it into the shapes I needed, was strong enough and easy to MIG weld with .030" or .023" wire. Just my .02
