1986 Dana 60 help.
2 Attachment(s)
While tearing down my Dana 60 on my 86 1 ton GMC i came across some parts I need to replace. The problem is that this part is not on any of the exploded diagrams and I need to know what it is and where i could get another one.
Delco still makes the backing plates and I have a part # for them. This piece does not come with the backing plate. This is like a dust shield and slides on after the backing plate. My Dana 44 has the backing plate and this piece as one casting. Any help would be appreciated. Steve. |
Re: 1986 Dana 60 help.
That looks like a dust shield without the surround. Group 5.002 part 463813 and 462814
is what the GM parts book shows. |
Re: 1986 Dana 60 help.
Those are the number for the dust shield. What this does is it goes on on top of the dust shield.
Those part numbers are not for this. |
Re: 1986 Dana 60 help.
Just had one of my trucks apart for calipers rotors and pads, it didn't have what you're looking for.

That pirate link tells me nothing. I know what they do, I took them off. What I need to know is where to get new ones. And I am apparently not alone.

Re: 1986 Dana 60 help.
I have seen that exploded view before. The location of that piece is incorrect in the drawing. It does not go between the spindle and the knuckle. It actually belongs between 63 and 64. It is also facing the wrong direction. That part number i believe starts 1400XXXXX. I could not find any info when I googled it.

Re: 1986 Dana 60 help.
ive seen them alot worse, do a little repair job... cut out a strip and weld it on, if you cant weld use shallow rivets.. just an option.

Give them a shot, you never know |
Re: 1986 Dana 60 help.
I wonder why the exploded view is so wrong? Nothing goes on before the spindle.......plus it's backward. Makes no sense?
In reality though, you could just leave them off. It really only "slightly" blocks debris from getting behind the hub. It is not a "seal" or sealing surface, so mud and water can still get in there. I wouldn't worry about it.....and I sure would not go to great expense to get them. |
