Painting the frame
Im planning on wire brushing my frame and painting it. Im wainting to use the por-15 paint in silver.
Do i just need to wire brush it, wipe it down and shoot the color? or do i need to prime it with something before? And also i have degreased alot of it, but i need to do alot more, so is it okay to use just degreaser from the store, or do i need to buy their products? |
Re: Painting the frame
I wire wheeled mine till free of caked on things like dirt, grease, and scaled rust. Cleaned with a purple power a few times, and scrubbing the most offending areas.
Let sit a day to build up a bit of surface rust. Por-15 likes to adhere to light rust better then clean or clear steel. |
Re: Painting the frame
por 15 is an excellent choice. did the susp., frame & bottom of the cab & box on my k30 crew 4 yrs ago. spends half it's life on gravel roads, & there is not a single chip anywhere. also hit my quad hauler & boat trailer with it, again no chips.
any degreaser will work, but after you degrease, spray por 15 prep & ready on it for awhile. will etch the metal & really give the paint a bite. even though what your painting is mostly out of the sun, you should topcoat, por 15 has no uv inhibitors. i did 2 & 2, 2 coats black por 15 & 2 coats of chassis black on top |
