Blazer Fuel Tank in 1964 Panel truck?
I'm looking for an EFI fuel tank to put in my '64 swb panel. I think I read somewhere that a certain year Blazer tank will fit and accept a factory EFI pump unit? Was it 1987? Is it a direct bolt in fit? I heard I will lose the spare tire indent but thats okay with me.
CaptainFab, don't you know something about this? Thanks guys. |
Re: Blazer Fuel Tank in 1964 Panel truck?
I am not sure about the 87 year model (although they did have TBI injection that year---remember the later vortex and TPI systems required higher fuel pump pressures) I used one from a blazer and just modified the opening and added a new TBI in the tank pump. It works just fine. Kieth :gmc2:

Yes, to clarify, I am planning to run a TBI system, which is why I'm hoping to find a factory solution, pump and all.
Thanks for weighing in kieth! |

I have not done this, but I believe you could use the '87-'91 Blazer tank, but you will likely need to move one or both crossmembers to accomodate the larger tank.
Here is another alternative...... http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...210641&page=83 |
Re: Blazer Fuel Tank in 1964 Panel truck?
Go to the salvage and find a 91 2wd suburban, the tank is big and flat and has the fuel pump in it. FYI a whole new pump/sending unit only costs $100.00. I threw 2 of these tanks away while building my truck, but the do have the proper filler neck, as long as they are not too wide. Here are pictures of a blazer tank in my pickup. Kieth
ps do not try a inline electric fuel pump.....in the tank is the only way to go. Here is a picture of a blazer fuel tank that we used: the filler neck was originally on the drivers side pointed up. We moved the filler and made it flush for my 66 pickup: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...0096&k=WfTFcBh here it is as it came: http://kieth.smugmug.com/Trucks/66-G...5429&k=gWBxmmr |
Re: Blazer Fuel Tank in 1964 Panel truck?
I put a 73-89 blazer tank in my 64 sub... not too hard, but the body was off the frame, I turned it around so that the filler would stay on the left, check the link to my 64 sub build thread in my signature below V probably around the middle of the thread...
post # 112 page 5.... I did have to move the rear crossmember, but other than the 2 cross braces to hold the tank up , there were no other mods. |
