is this the correct way to decode a quadrajet carb. the date is 2671.
im guessing it was built on the 261st day of 1971? and starting jan 1st 1971 that would put it around late august early sept of 71? is this correct? thx everyone, dave |

Re: how to decode carb dates?
interesting yote - but pretty sure that's the original carb. ken had that thing for a good while, and when I looked at it, the whole thing appeared pretty untouched. Anyhoo... A late 71 carb is certainly still correct for a how the part number decodes. The Julian date is just the date the thing was mfgr'ed (the carb) - which needs to precede the build date of the truck by a good bit - 1/2 year not uncommon. Keep in mind that the factory was building 72's by Aug 71 if the were to be on the showroom floor by Oct 71 - so the motors were being put together in advance of that - so that is why you have a Julian date Sep 71 carb that is also coded for a 72 auto trans carb. I do not think the part number differentiates it's for a 402 as mentioned above - but it is the correct, original carb - so REBUILD don't resell!! Truck's looking great, still wish I'd bought it!
