WTB; Red Emergency light for 1947 firetruck

WTB Red light, old style rounded top emergency light for a 1947 firetruck. Looking for the retro look, not modern. Thanks

The light you are looking for is a Federal Model 17. This was the first revolving emergency light and was introduced in 1948. It contained two revolving sealed beams. Later models carried 3 or 4 lamps. Since your truck is a 47 the fire apparatus part could have been built in 48 and thus had this "Beacon-Ray" light. They are around, were built in 6 volt or 12 volt and the chrome skirt was available for both flat surfaces or slanted for curved roofs.

I had 4 of them about 6 months ago but have sold all of them. You can check ebay but expect to pay about twice what they are worth. You should be able to find a nice one for under $200 somewhere. If you need a 6 volt expect to pay a little more.

If I can put my hands on one I'll pm you.... Good luck in your search

Thanks smfdco1. Yeh they're looking pricy. Looks like my truck is turning out to be a 1950. The city bought it new in July of 1950, per the city treasures minutes. The cab is definitely a 1950, doors also. It was auctioned off as a 1948 to orinal buyer, then to the person I bought it from as a 1947. Its never been titled as far as I can find with the DMV. They're still trying to decide what they're going to do for me as far as issuing a title or registration. Hopefully soon. My DMV is treating me very well as far as this is concerned. They have the people in Little Rock looking into it for me.

Re: WTB; Red Emergency light for 1947 firetruck

You're welcome, sorry I didn't see your post earlier. I have collected and restored fire trucks for years and owned 5 at one time. As I've gotten older that are just too much to maintain so I just have an ambulance (on here "my latest toy") and a restored police car.

You haven't said what make your truck is. I have a friend in the hobby that has a rather large collection of lights and sirens. I can check with him to see what he has. I would need to know if the roof is "flat" or has a rounded top. I also need to know if it is 6 or 12 volt. Most stuff from back then as you probably know was 6. Do yo need any other type of lighting or siren? I hope to see him in the next week or so and could look around.

I know the deal with the title process. Two of my trucks had never been titled by the original fire dept. It took forever to get one worked out. At least the local DMV is helping. Sometimes they are not helpful at all. A friend in N.C. is fighting that now, for over a year.

So as not to step on any rules if you want to talk specifics PM me.... Thanks

1950? GMC 450 model firetruck. Still trying to nail the year down. Sold to me as a 47. The city treasurer of the town where bought says bought new in July 1950. I believe from serial number and body specific items its a 1950. 5 window cab, no vent windows in doors, drivers vent in cab. See my post under City selling firetruck in the 47-59 section. Thanks. Jim. Plan is just for siren and top light. Using truck shop for turn signals and running lights.

Yes preferably 12 volt on light and siren. Planning 12 volt conversion now due to poor condition of wiring.

No worries. Packed very nice. Found some chrome paint I'm going to try today. Its raining out so won't be able to dig my house footings. Might as well work on the truck. Thanks. Jim
