door strikers/ catches/latches??
 

how are you guys refinishing these parts?
what was the oe finish?


i'm about too tear into my doors and thinking ahead on my project.

one thing i'm not sure on what too do is how to refinish these exposed peices.
i could probally paint them body color (seen this done before an i didnt like it)
or just silver.
but i'm not sure if i like the overall "paint" idea because it will wear off on some peices an look crappy.
I understand just about any finish will wear off the certain areas.

but i wanna hear/see what you'all did with yours an what you think of it.

this is one of the areas that i seem too overlook when i'm at car shows.;)

mine are in pretty good shape but i will still blast'm to get them fresh and go from there depending on what i read here.

Factory color was like a black oxide. I just painted mine semi gloss black and called it good.

I had my local plating shop do mine in black phosphate. That was the original finish on the parts against the original paint.

guys thanks for the info.
looks to be fairly easy too do. and looks correct.
i've never heard of the stuff before. an i can say i've never noticed it done on any trucks i've seen.


eastwood company is kinda local to me(about a hr. ride)
i've been looking for a reason to go there an check out the place.
who knows what else i could be comeing home with;)

i got this kit a few weeks ago after startin this thread.
knowing i had the time off this week i decided too dive in an get it done.
with freshly blasted parts i got setup and followed the instructions too a "t".

following advise i gotten elsewhere online it was suggested too use this stuff when the temps was 75* or higher.
so i warmed the basement workshop up to temp an gave it a whirl.

i put one of the smaller peices in the solution and hung it up too dry.(for a test)
it looked great nice an black and stayed that way.
so one by one i rinsed,dipped(only takes a few seconds) and rinsed again per the inst. then hung each peice up too dry.
by the time i was done dipping the last peice.
the first one was almost dry but it started too look fugly.

straight outa the rinse,solution dip,rinse the parts looked great.
but after drying this is how they turned out.
i didnt bother useing the clear when they looked like this.
so it looks like i'm heading back too the blast cabinet.
eastwood has been askin me for a review of the product
instead i'm gonna be asking them WHAT WENT WRONG!

oh an if your intrested in gettin this kit i'm gonna tell ya the only thing your really gettin is the blackening solution.
an empty jug,clearcoat and prep spray can be gotten anywhere and most anybody has gloves an goggles layin around.

i done cold blueing on a gun useing birchwood caseys product an that worked flawlessly.

anybody else use this stuff with success?

Looks like parkerising, almost. A good cold-blue solution for firearms should work decent. Clean off all oil, or else- spotty performance.

yhea i wanna gab with eastwood first. but i just might go that direction
