Hood question

If I could find a decent hood for a 65 Chevy what would be a reasonable price ? I can buy replacement sheet metal for the one I have but if I could just swap it out it would be quicker and easier.

When I'm curious about prices, I just look in the classifieds section of our forums here.

Re: Hood question

Finding one worth buying may turn out to be the bigger issue than how much it costs. I looked for 5 years before I bought the one on my truck. I've seen them as cheap as $25 and as high as $500. I think I paid $40 for mine. It really depends on condition and being in the right place at the right time. Rust free, undamaged doors and hoods are two of the most difficult pieces to find for these trucks.

Nothing beats original parts. As previously stated, sometimes you just gotta be in the right place at the right time to get what you want at a good price.
Maybe nobody in Kansas is going to be in the right place to save these parts from being sold at a scrap rate. What a shame.

Wow nice straight sheet metal just surface rust. I see these all the time on craigslist in the pacific northwest. When they are gone they will be gone for ever and allot for just scrape prices, if I had the extra $$ I would have a parts yard behind my house. For me it's just wishful thinking "dang"it..Vernski:lol:

I know what you mean. If I had the space and the money I would buy all the parts I could find. Some people just don't know how valuable these parts are.

most on C-list don't tell the truth about the condition. Rac65 if you were here in n-calif i would take care of you.

Re: Hood question

IF you find a real straight hood out on the west coast they average $200-$300

Out on the east coast they average $300-$400

I have seen some go as high as $600.

I sold mine that was MINT of my '64 for only $150, but I didn't know what I had when I sold it.

Re: Hood question

Mine is really rusted across the front. The cheapest price I have found for replacement parts is at Top Banana. Each piece is 95 dollars. The same parts at LMC are about 195 each. The price at Top Banana is pretty good but you still have all the cutting ,welding and massaging to make it look good. I know finding a good hood would probably be tough but you can always hope. 61K10 it's a shame we are not closer.

Re: Hood question

You can always try and find a member whos driving near the route where the parts are and you are and try and meet part way. Sometime the cost of fuel is cheaper than the labor on metal work unless you do the job yourself. There is alot of members always traveling on here, and alot will lend a hand.

Re: Hood question

I can do the work myself . I think I am just getting old and lazy. I have done the rockers, patched the front fenders, rear cab corners and one door skin. The bed needs only a little work. The hood and the other door are the only big metal jobs left.

Rac65 heres one that was posted a while ago, the first pic is obviously a filler picture but there you go they don't look to be in the best shape. I wonder if the fluff goes with it?..Vernski:thumbs:
