Factory or not? 1963 GMC shortbed utility.

Alright, a buddy and I went and picked this up today. It's a 1963 GMC shortbed half ton. What has us stumped, is the bed. It's a factory step side bed, but with utility box fenders. They are bolted in just as if they were the normal step side fenders. Is this factory, a dealer added feature, or did someone spend a lot of time to make these fenders look factory made? Any info would be awesome! Here's a few pictures.

I would say it was a dealer add from an aftermarket company. Looks good to me, is it useable?

I agree. Factory could easily provide blank bedsides for tool box additions...i.e. blank in so far as the fender bolt holes were not stamped in place.

It'll be absolutely cool when restored!

Agreed. When this truck was new, it was sent to aftermarket body builder for conversion such as Pierce. A plumber, electrican or utility company found this set up to be quite functional. http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8917dcb8.jpg

Definitely useable. We've already got 5 lug disc breaks on the front (last nights project). We're hoping to have it on the road in the next few months. You don't see too many of these things so we're keeping it as it is.

I didn't get a title with it. I'll run out there and take a look in a little while and see if I can figure it out.

Id make sure a title is ubtainable first before putting alot of work or money into it. I've seen people put alot of money and time into a vehicle to find there are title/vin issues and cannot get them on the road. Its a cool looking truck though and definitley interested in watching the build of it.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...&d=1377468413I would get the title before you invest any time or $ in it.Mine was stolen.I didn't find out until I tracked down the original owner.I got luckey and he didn't want it back and he was willing to sign for a lost title and transfer it over.I paid for all the back tags. Here is a photoshop of mine.

Luckily here in oklahkma, it's really easy to get a title. It's no big deal here.

That's very cool!! I would leave it the way it is.. It looks like someone made a vise mount too.

Re: Factory or not? 1963 GMC shortbed utility.

Alright, I'm having trouble with finding out exactly what year this thing is. I used vinwiz.com which has always worked for me, but this time, it told me that this thing is a 1961, which even I know isn't right. So here's the vin- 1001PF13551A
So if anybody knows how to decode that, I would appreciate it! Thanks!
