Help with light issue

Hello everyone! I'm new, well kinda. I use to use the name hotrod73. I haven't been on here in years. I'm from norman Oklahoma and just got a 66 c10. Hoping I can get some help from you guys!

Just picked up a 1966 c10 from a buddy. Hoping someone can guide me in the right direction for some help. The brake light assembly is the 40 led conversion ones, don't think this is the problem but the brake lights work when you hit the brakes but do not stay lit up with the lights on. Only when you hit the brakes. Also, the dash lights and cab light do not work either. Could these be related? It has a new painless wiring kit installed in the truck so maybe the previous owner wired it wrong or something else? Where would be a good starting point on this? Thanks guys!

you have no ground on the rear lights ... the dash/dome are not related to rear.. you probably don't have any power going to that part of the switch i think it has separate power to that part of switch and VERY NICE RIDE.....also how do you like the leds? i am thinking about them for my 63

Lotsa taillights(NOT brake lites) & dash lites run off a common fuse--a safety feature to warn you that taillites are not burning when your dashlites go out. So, check your fuses.

Re: Help with light issue

love the led lights... i dont think its a ground problem.. here is what i found today.. the running light has no power at the light, so i checked for power at the headlight switch, i have power to the red wire constant on the switch and when i pull it out for parking lights i have power for the front lights but i do not get power for the rear parking light or to the dome light or gauges from the switch.. the switched was replaced today thinking that was the issue but same thing.. there is a orange wire on the switch also, is this suppose to always have power like the red wire?

Re: Help with light issue

my fuses appear to be good, it has a painless wiring kit with a updated fuse box and the fuses all appear to be fine.

also, noticed when i have the headlights on for a little bit, the dimmer switch on the floor for the high/low beam, the wires coming out of that switch gets pretty hot. The other wires dont really get hot just the ones coming out of the switch on the floor.. any ideas?

Re: Help with light issue

is the dimmer new? sounds like a high resistance connection dirty/rusty (if old dimmer)

Re: Help with light issue

your LEDs are they the type that use your orig. sockets?

Re: Help with light issue

No it is a complete led setup with just 3 wires coming out of the back of it, one for ground one for brake lights and one for tail lights.. it lights up when hit brakes just no tail lights and there is no power at the headlight switch for the brown tail light wire..

posted a pic of lights... i see this one plugs into the socket but mine doesnt have the socket.. someone must have spliced them in instead... but its not the lights i believe the problem is no power at the headlight switch for the brown wire for the tails... i also dont have power to the orange wire on the switch or the green which i just now read somewhere that those should have power from fuse box so now i kinda have an idea where to look next..

Re: Help with light issue

the brake lights work when you push pedal but ...with pedal pushed and then you turn lights on the brake lights go out and no tail?

Re: Help with light issue

brake lights always work... its the tail (rear running light) that does not work...
when i turn my lights on at night all lights come on except the tail lights but if i hit the pedal they work

Re: Help with light issue

OK misunderstood ....you dont have dash lights either i bet ....there are 2 power feeds to the light switch one is tail and dash other is head lights them self

Re: Help with light issue

correct. i guess i need to trace the other wire back to fuse box and see why i have no power.. is it the orange wire and the red wire that need the power?
