Gas Gauge Problem
I have a 1986 Chevy S-10 pickup 2.5 RWD. My gas gauge stopped working. I just replaced the gas tank and put in a new fuel pump w/ sending unit (Airtex E3637S). I thought the sending unit was bad. Still my gauge is not working. Fuse is good. All other gauges work. Can anyone please give me advice? Thanks!

Re: Gas Gauge Problem
check for grounds.....There should be a purple wire(i think) hook that to ground right before the tank, and that should move the gauge. If not, its your gauge or wiring to gauge.

Re: Gas Gauge Problem
I double checked and it is grounded good at tank. I have been checking on replacing the gauge. I was told that the gauge is determined by the ohms from sending unit and they varied from 0 to 90 on some and 30 to 240, etc. on others. I have checked online to find out how many ohms Airtex E3637S sends out, but have found nothing. I called several auto parts stores and they cannot give me any info. Guess I will call Airtex company and ask them after the holiday.
Thank you very much for your help. |

I'd check behind the cluster
all grounds go down to one about a foot from the cluster plug check the board back there and the leads to it |
