wheel tire combo questions 86 swb

I would like to go with American racing 18s. Not sure about width, tires, spacing, staggered or not? Any pics you have would be helpful. Here she is now. The current wheels and tires will be for sale when I get the new ones.

I think a 18x9.5 or 10 with a Nitto 555 285/40r18 would look good. That'll give you a 27" tire, enough side wall to ride ok and handle pretty good. IMHO, I like to run same size all around so I can rotate them.

Thanks, did you mean 255? Do you have any pics?

Truck looks good. It all comes down to personal preference and what you like, whether to stagger or not. You do lose ability to rotate, but I personally prefer the staggered. For a staggered setup, a 18x8 and 18x9.5 would be a good route to go.

Are you looking at the Torq Thrust 2's? We sell American racing, so let me know if I can help you out any.

No, I meant 285s. I don't have any pics, I still working on the brakes on my truck, then the metal work, then the suspension, then the rolling stock. LOL, but that is the size I'm planing to run.

What about backspacing? Is that something to worry about? What is the proper backspacing for these trucks?

We can get you all set up with backspacing for the truck and what will work. The backspacing will depending on how wide of wheel, but if looking at a 9.5" wheel, then I would suggest running a 5.25" backspace. This will be a good setup and clear the 285 no problem.
