its most likely the bad brake booster when u mash brake it causes it do draw to much vacuum

Re: My truck keeps dying when I stop

lamest terms when applying brake its drawing all the air from brake booster instead of drawing air and gas from carb

It's not your booster. The evidence is on your carb by the accelerator pump. Your float level is too high and it's flooding a bit.

What causes it to die when you press the pedal down and it dies, and a little while after it starts up again

I had a similar issues seemed electrical at first cause it was just like somebody turned off the key, in the end I found a buddy with an extra carb threw it on the truck and it cleared up the issue so I offered him a $100 and away I went. carb's are really easy to swap if you know somebody who might have a loaner anyhow

X2. More info needed.
When it quits does it start right up or hard to start with black smoke out the pipe.

THen it's not flooding!
Could be a vacuum leak. Check all the vac hoses for splits. Spray some carb cleaner around the ends of the hoses. If it runs speeds up the idle you've found a leak.
To eliminate the booster as a problem pull the vac hose off where it connects to the carb or manifold and plug that nipple. Test drive carefully (brakes will be harder to stop truck) and see if it dies. If it still dies then hook the booster back up.
Let us know and we'll go from there to find your cure.

Buy a rebuild kit for your carb. geezer#99 is right, your float level is too high so your fuel bowl floods out and stalls your engine when you slow down. Rebuild the old girl. The kit will show you how to set your float level properly, or you'll be able to find a thread on the site!

I agree with the rest, but to answer your question on the booster, here is how to test it. Remove the vacuum hose from the booster at the intake and cap it off snugly. Drive the truck-REALIZING THAT IT WILL BE HARD TO STOP without boost assist!-allowing extra space to stop. If the same symptons remain it is not the booster.
