Hey guys and gals. Just came back to the domestic side after driving a mercedes diesel for the last 15 years. We needed something to pull a horse trailer with and I told my wife we needed an older 70's model standard truck. Didn't actually think I would find one in decent condition for the amount of cash on hand. I got very very lucky though and found a barn find. 76 Cheyenne with 51k miles one owner! Hadn't been started since 1982. I had a local mechanic drop the tank and clean, blow out the lines, go through the carb, put a little oil in the plug holes, change the oil, and add some gas. It cranked for 15 seconds and fired up and ran like a brand new motor. So I paid the owner and drove it home from Tampa to St. Petersburg. Little hairy ride with no shocks and very iffy dry-rotted tires but took it slow and got it home. Since then all the rubber under the hood, new tires, shocks, brake hoses, calipers, wheel cylinders, pads, shoes, repack wheel bearings, and this thing is amazing to drive. I learned to drive a 72 3 on the tree and it's like riding a bike I guess. Kids can't believe they put a stick shift next to the steering wheel. It's takes me back hearing the four barrel open up. I imagine I will be here quite a bit as I work out all the bugs that will crop up in the next few months. Condition wise this truck is excellent. It has one small rust hole in the bottom rt. fender. Bed has no dents or rust. Looks like it was never used. a few surface rust spots here and there but no big deal. Interior is about 98%, two very small cracks in the dash. Still has the factory carpet and headliner. No rips in seat. I'm very happy to be back in the 70's.
