Hello all.
First post here as i seek information regarding a possible purchase of an old SUV. / truck (on a tight budget). My preferred option just because they look fantastic would be a 1971 / 1972 Jimmy with the chrome cross grill and double headlamps either side. First question (and I apologize if my quetsiosn are stupid - as I said - i'm captain noob to this stuff) The 71 / 72 blazer is pretty much identical to the Jimmy is it not? Would the Jimmy grill and front end look be transferable to a blazer - I just came across one that needs a grill?

yes it would be transferable but you would need to change the grill and fenders as well as the tailgate

Add the front bumper, headlight wiring harness to that list.

You dont have to change the tailgate to add the gril BUT if you were making a Blazer into a GMC you could just add a tailgate band.

I think this is a case of too much too soon and I'll just wait until the correct model becomes available. I assume that i should look for Bodywork first n foremost as rust is harder to deal with than mechanicals. Are there any specific gotcha areas to look for in a jimmy of this age?

Plenty of places where rust will get you. Get underneath the truck and look at the rocker boxes. Add to that the bottom of the front door pillars, front fender cups and bottom of the doors. Also, the windshield frames are prone to rusting out along the top.
