1/2 ton 2wd front wheel bearings repair/replacement...
Its been awhile since I last had to do wheel bearings on the front of my truck. I don't remember the torque spec to preload the bearings, does anyone have that? My front driver side is bad. I recently replaced it, but I didn't torque to spec to preload the bearing, I just PFT'd it, then backed it off to the next slot on the castle nut and called it a day. Its bad again and now I have to repair it. I hand packed the bearings, installed new races with my press and installed new inner seals. I don't see any reason for this to have failed except I didn't torque it to preload the bearings. The bearings are Timken so its a quality part... maybe something has changed, but I think its my fault.
Torque spec please and any advice on something I may have overlooked during the procedure would be wonderful.:fry: Thanks! |

Torque to 80ftlbs spin the hub to ensure the races are seated and square. Back off then finger tight
