Used lift kit problem
 

Bought a 4" lift kit from CL but after installation the truck is no where near level. Has 35" tires. Any ideas as to why this is? Thanks.

kit was not designed for that heavy utility body// get a fleetsede bed and it will probally raise the rear a couple inches

Does the front look like it's lifted 4"? I really want to keep the utility bed, do you think 6" blocks would level it out? Thanks cdowns.

My thought is to get the rear springs re arched and rebuilt. The rear springs appear to be original [40+ years old]. Your truck is a work truck with a utility bed. I know my work truck is always over loaded with tools and parts! PLEASE tighten down the front U bolt nuts. I would not use 6" rear blocks, they can induce wicked axle wrap on acceleration, and that will only be worse with old tired springs. Also check into a dropped pitman arm off the steering box to straighten out the drag link and prevent bump steer. SWEET truck. All the best, Dirk

I don't think what your seeing is that unusual.

I installed a new 4 leaf lift kit and still had to bring the rear up another 3" to make the ride height even. Looked a lot like your truck.

Thanks Dirk. Would new OEM leaf springs an add-a-leafs be a good option. I ask because I'm not familiar with a shop in town that would re-arch my leafs springs. U bolts weren't tightened due to me thinking I was going to have to tear everything apart, but thanks for noticing. I think I'm going to go with a new drag link.... If I can get the old one off. @Bigdav160 I sure hope I didn't just throw away money.

I second everything gvw5400 said, and seriously you need the proper raised pitman arm, they come with all the lift kits so the person you bought the stuff from didn't wanna take it off his truck if you didn't get it.

You need the correct steering arm as well. You will have some serious steering bind if you continue to use the stock steering arm off the stock knuckle. The drag link is at too steep of an angle.

All 6" rear blocks do is add a greater chance for wheel hop. I'd look at a custom rear spring setup. That utility box is pretty heavy.

Rather than edit my post, i should have said lowered Pitman arm.

Dang, the front springs almost look like 6" springs. I have a 4" lift and 35" tires on this truck and yours looks taller

I was going to say I think you have 6" springs and 4" blocks. Just get add-a-leafs to bring the rear up. 6" springs would be the best in the long run. I love that truck. I want a utility bed so bad. I've had several and feel lost w/o one.
