$400 nv-4500 is a steal, even if it needs a rebuild. Rebuild kits are affordable, parts are still available, easy to work on. Also, is it early style with external slave or newer style with internal slave?

My NV-4500 is out of a diesel and my only problem is my bellhousing is cracked, I will be cleaning and grinding and having it welded up.

Its a 94 which style slave does it use? Do the shifter tower locations match? My truck only has 41, 100 miles on it so I'm not cutting the floor that's a deal breaker.

Shifter is further back on a nv4500, you will need to some cutting.
Maybe your trans hump has the removable cover.

Here is some good nv4500 info

http://www.offroaders.com/directory/products/NV4500.htm

http://www.high-impact.net/transmiss...ear/nv4500.htm

I would seriously consider a nv4500 swap, I know a guy that did one in a CUCV and he is thrilled with it, if you plan on keeping the truck it's worth it

I'd have to look but believe its not bolt it maybe someone can chime in for sure but I think they switched to molded style in late 80s sometime btw he said it has 18 miles on it fro. Being towed. He toom it to shop had it gone through gave name of shop then was never able to get the diesel it was behind running.

88 does not have a removable hump. Shifter is about 8 inches rearward on an NV4500 compared to the SM465, you will have to cut.

If this truck is not your daily driver the swap isn't really worth the cost. Clutch needs to be changed, input splines are different.

Look at dirtylarry's NV4500 swaps, both of his are 4wd swaps but the work involved is the same. He used the Advance Adapters swap bellhousing in order to retain the original square body hydraulic slave.

Also, there is no mechanical speedometer drive on the NV4500. You would need a Cable-x box to drive yours or use an electronic Suburban cluster with a VSSB adapter box.

Input splines are the same 1.125 - 10 spline

No need for a different bellhousing, just need to make a line.

You can use a dodge mechanical speedo setup.

Re: nv4500 pto compatable?

pto is NOT compatable, unless you change the gear in it. they have a specific tooth count for the trans, and its different even between the early and late nv4500's. Please don't just bolt it on and try it, will get expensive quick!

also my hump is not removeable and mine works fine. mine is a auto 4x4 truck though.
