Any Blower Motors?
Just curious if there is any blower builds on here. I'm building a 51 AD and going to put my 434 out of my chevelle in it. Later, I'd like to install a 6-71 on it. Right now it's a Motown block, Eagle rotating assy, 10 1/2 to 1, Dart 2.30's, super victor, QF 850, and a Bullet mech roller. Anybody got any pics of their AD trucks, blower or not, please post. Looking at some of your builds makes me miss drag racing that much more.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
I am doing a blower motor for my truck. 496 BBC with a Hi-Helix 6-71 roots blower on it. Since the blower is somewhat maxed for this cubic inch motor I went with a higher static compression of 9.0:1 instead of going with the normal 7.5:1 for a blower motor. Since I am building a pump gas build this will make the motor not as "lazy" on the street when it is not under boost.
I had Scott Shafiroff Racing do my rotating assembly for the motor so it is ready to go. Still trying to make the final choices on heads/cam but I have a general thought on what I want. lata CHRIS |
Re: Any Blower Motors?
Brodix makes a good head for boost. I'd like to build 1 if I can swing it. I'm going to have to build a mild motor for the chevelle and trans, so the 434 will stay as it is for a while. It runs good the way it is but you know how that is, always want a little more. Plus there is nothing like the sound of a blower motor.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
My little 383 with a 671, 8:1 comp, 10 lb boost, crappy pump gas. From 2007 up to the end of July of this year I ran a BDS 8-nozzle efi top hat. IMO, the most expensive mistake I have made.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
Coggedbelt75, what was wrong with the inj setup? I ran mech inj for over 20 yrs on my dragsters and loved it. They all were on alky. I hated going to a carb when I built the chevelle. Tried a Holley 950HP 1st, they suck, and I then went with a 850 Quick Fuel and was really impressed. Had a needle and seat problem, emailed them and 2 days later 2 needle and seats arrived in the mail with gaskets. When I go blower carbs, it'll be QF. I have a HP on a guys chevelle out here now that is giving me fits.

Forgot, real nice truck, keep the pics coming.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
The only reason I chose the injection in the first place was to be different from the other blower cars in my area. It had it's good moments, but the truck never "seemed" to run like I thought it should. BDS customer support (loosely said) was NO help from day one. No one around here knew how to tune it...I sure didn't. Went to 2 different tuners that " thought" they could do it. One in Texas and the other here in Ok. It would run either pig-rich or start to lean out no matter how was doing the adjusting on the tables. Went thru 3 o2 sensors since I had it...and they are far from cheap. The ecu that came with the injection was already out dated when I received it and FAST doesn't even support it any more. Wasn't about to drop another 2 grand for an ecu upgrade so I figured it was time to let it go.
My old truck gets me around everyday, not a racer or needing every ounce of power that can be squeezed out of her. The difference is already quite noticeable. The carbs are working great pretty much right out of the box. Only thing I had to do was lower the floats a tad. Throttle is clean and crisp now. Fires with minimum cranking. At least with carbs I know what I'm doing . I'll settle for the simplicity of the carbs over the electronics and their costly components. |
Re: Any Blower Motors?
If you ever need anything else, try Hampton blowers, that guy knows his stuff and he doesn't mind helping you.

Im running a 355 sbc, forged crank, forged h beam rods, -10cc dished pistons, World sportsmen II heads 2.02/1.60 with double valve springs all matched. 74cc combustion chamber. Mechanical roller cam with a 541/561 lift, chromoly pushrods, roller lifters. 6-71 Weiand Blower, dual Edelbrock carbs tuned, MSD pro distributor with 6AL box and Blaster 2 coil. Still in tuning phase..

Re: Any Blower Motors?
I should have went with my first choice....Hilborn. Andy gives nothing but great customer support.
Your ride is looking good Domer. Are you going to leave the compartment open or eventually cut the hood? |
Re: Any Blower Motors?
Looks good!

Re: Any Blower Motors?
Thanks man.. its been a steep learning curve.. I'm not gonna put a hood on it. Im going to build some covers for the tires.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
A friend has a S 10 with a 383, 6-71, pro streeted. Truck runs good but he's been having carb trouble. He runs a single carb and the hi dollar hat deal that sets over top the carb. It has the dummie lines, linkage to butter flies, etc, etc. For the price it cost he could have put 2 quick fuel's 650 blower carbs on it and I think it would perform a lot better. Anyway, some bad ass trucks here, looking good and keep them coming.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
vht you would be better off going with an 8-71 instead since your over the 427 mark CI wise. Are you keeping the 10.5:1 compression ratio to run on E85? I agree about Hampton, I used to swing by his shop every so often to see what was new when I lived in Downey. Mooneyham on the other hand was a real grouch and if you weren't a race car guy he didn't want to talk to you. Mert Littlefield was a good guy to deal with too and the worst bunch was and probably still are is BDS.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
I'm still in the build process on the truck so I haven't done nothing yet. If I use the 434, I would drop the comp to 8-1 or so. I'd have to run 93 pump gas. I'll have to see how the money is when the time comes.

Re: Any Blower Motors?
Domer - Your truck is awesome. Do you know if those front bars coming out of the firewall would be NHRA approved the way you have them installed? I really like how they are close to the motor like that.
|
Re: Any Blower Motors?
I doubt they would be.. they are just bolted to the firewall with nutserts. They aren't that strong. When I install the actual cage they will be functional.

I'm building a street/strip truck and I know for sure what cage I'm going to have to have, but with the way your bars are, I wonder if they would be approved if they went through the firewall and welded to the cage. |
Re: Any Blower Motors?
I honestly have no idea.. I don't know what the rules are.. I'm not building mine for a strip truck.. its just a toy/cruiser..
